It was so moving and wonderful. I highly suggest it!!

The monks live a simple life and yet these 9 have a complicated decision to make. I thought the film did a wonderful job of portraying their inner conflicts as they serve God and their surrounding community while coming into contact with terrorism.

Waste of time and money!

This was an amazing film. I was going into it expecting to be bored, but I was very, very wrong. The flow of the movie is absolutely perfect, and the ending is filmed so beautifully. Each of the monks has a distinct personality, and we see their struggles with their faith and with their difficult work. The filmmakers clearly care that the story of these monks is told, and they tell it well. The actors were superb, especially Michael Lonsdale. His eyes are so expressive, and he made me shed a tear at the end of the movie. Lambert Wilson's performance as the leader of the monks was also hauntingly beautiful as he personifies the struggle between his faith and his human proclivities; between good and evil. Such an amazing film--it should have been nominated for an Oscar.

Timeless themes and recent history combine for a moving and haunting story...

very slow and boring movie, very litle argument and even when the actors are good, it dosen't live to the expectations-at all- that are presented in the trailer as an action movie. . . chose something else. . .

well balanced views of the life of the monks within their community. great portrait ofnthe doubts they faced and their atrelngth to do what is right under the most pressing situation. very good acting, the music is captivating, and very efficient directing.

Wonderful film. Beautiful imagery, with sensitive performances by all the actors. Loved what the film was trying to portray: the moral issues of good versus evil, each person's questioning of his faith and life purpose, and about man's place in the world. I loved the simple lifestyle of these monks and how the film showed them to be just like the rest of us: scared, unsure, questioning their own lives and choices, yet ultimately reaffirming who they were and why they were serving God in a monastery in a foreign land living among and serving Muslims in a small community. I especially liked that the film showed all of their unique personalities, showed how they worked out differences of opinion, and even showed them cursing! The film left me disagreeing with the monks' ultimate decision...I believe that life itself is the most precious and priceless thing in this world and that love and goodness must fight to exist. Otherwise, evil prevails and continues to destroy. And I cannot accept that goodness should sacrifice itself to pure evil. But I understand what motivated the monks' choices...

I was really enjoying this european paced film but it just decided to stop playing at 41:08. Hopefully this was just an isolated instance.

Très belle histoire d'amour et de sacrifice. Toutes les performances sont précieuses et parfaites.... contrairement à d'autre idée, ce film est pour tout le monde afain de comprendre l'obediance de la parole de Dieu.
