Description

Jimmie Fails dreams of reclaiming the Victorian home his grandfather built in the heart of San Francisco. Joined on his quest by his best friend Mont, Jimmie searches for belonging in a rapidly changing city that seems to have left them behind. As he struggles to reconnect with his family and reconstruct the community he longs for, his hopes blind him to the reality of his situation. A wistful odyssey populated by skaters, squatters, street preachers, playwrights, and the other locals on the margins, The Last Black Man in San Francisco is a poignant and sweeping story of friendship, community, and the true meaning of home. Joe Talbot's directorial debut is a deep and resonant meditation on the stories we tell ourselves to find our place in the world.

  • Critically acclaimed and authentic SF story

Anyone who rates it a one star clearly hasnโ€™t watched the film or understood its meaning. It is a beautiful film and captures its intended meaning and story arcs in a methodical way. The pace is slow to develop but ends strong. If you like a movie like Do the Right Thing but with a more nuanced approach, you will like this film. If you like films where the city and its quirky characters are central, then you will like this film. The ones rating it a one have it all wrong. I would trust Rotten Tomatoes more on this one.

This movie was beautiful and amazing the fact that it was written and directed and produced by some of the stars in the film makes it that great also Brad Pitt and Mya Rudolph are producers on this movie as well it gives a different perspective of life in America for some that others may not understand but the viewer can see the beauty in every aspect of this movie

I don't this this is an important, good movie or and interesting movie. Surely the critics know that this is not a hit movie. I have much better things to do with my time.

After reading the reviews (which by the way, Apple must bury the bad one's becasue they were all good on my list..) I thought it looked good. The opening was gripping, great cinamatography and point of view, cool music. But once the story statrted it was all down hill. Since it was only .99 I cut my losses of time and $ quick.... apparently you either love or hate this one...

People go around, say something about being despondent, and then about a house, for two hours. There was another movie about tensions in race relations in Oakland that was much better...forget the title though.

I love this movie SO much. It's like a beautiful painting in motion. Epic soundtrack, too. Anyone who grew up in the Bay Area and surroundings cities will probably experience a lot of nostalgia watching this film. It's a poignant snapshot of the magical side of San Francisco, which is quickly vanishing due to gentrification... Don't expect a complex plot or a lot of action, but if you watch this film with an open mind and appreciate the visuals, you will enjoy it.
