Description

Michael Keaton, Mark Ruffalo, and Rachel McAdams lead a critically acclaimed cast in this gripping true story about the Pulitzer Prize-winning investigation that uncovered a scandal that rocked one of the world’s oldest and most trusted institutions. Delving into allegations of child abuse within the local Catholic Archdiocese, a tenacious team of Boston Globe reporters exposes a decades-long cover-up that reaches the highest levels of Boston’s religious, legal, and government establishment. “Brilliantly acted and flawlessly directed” (New York Post ) Spotlight is a powerful and riveting drama the critics are calling “the All the President’s Men of our time” (Los Angeles Times ).

  • By far the best movie of the year 2015

I can’t swallow why it didn’t win BAFTA & GOLDEN GLOBES best movie! In comparison to The Revenant which is highly overrated for a survival and revenge story , this movie is multi-layered and complex not in story but in scales of it’s emotional course which the characters take you through... This movie is in the second place of best pictures in my opinion in this decade only being narrowly nailed down by Parasite!

I know many of the real people and they were depicted perfectly. The attention to detail is spot on!! There’s so much attention to detail that when Phil Saviano is in the bar talking to Sasha Pfeiffer....you will notice in the background is a television set with a Penn State football game playing. As Phil walks out...on the television is Joe Paterno. That is no coincidence. It’s McCarthys way of combining the Catholic Church sex abuse scandal with the Penn Stats scandal.

Important film, well made and with lots of empathy. And as upsetting as the subject is, the fact that not only the reporters in the film succeeded publishing the story but also that this film can tell their story gives hope in the bleakness of systematic abuse by Catholic Church.

here's something to think about: would "spotlight" ever do a story that uncovers islam's corruption? would they ever do a story in which muslims are confronted and asked if they will help modernize islam and stand up to jihad terror? and help change and modernize islam and the middle east?hmmm...i'm guessing not

The problem I had with this film is not there was no real tension or climax. Once the Boston Globe decides to do an expose on the Catholic Church, the movie is all pretty much paint by numbers. It's interesting in the sense of how the investigative work was done, but again there's no real tension.

This movie and its success is a classic example of the public and the politically correct press over-applauding the efforts of people who tackle a significant social issue. Don’t get me wrong - the issue that the story is about was a tragedy and a major public crisis deserving of all the attention it got in the real world. The movie, however, not only adds nothing, it doesn’t tell the story in any way, shape, or form that is interesting. It is a dull and tired script devoid of any drama. The acting is professional, but foiled by the simple, basic, linear, bland story that never actually requires the actors to do very much. The accolades seem to be directed to the subject matter, but don’t be fooled. If you’re interested in the subject you’d be better off researching the actual news stories. If you’re interested in an entertaining movie, this one is not going to deliver.

This film does not surprise me. Went to Catholic school. Did not trust the clergy and this included the nuns.
