There is something fascinating about completely giving up. How people will react to adversity will show there true colors. This album is what completely giving up looks like. It’s poetic and raw, and I thinks that’s why it speaks to people. It’s basic enough to to be accessible to the average listener, but also complex enough that hard core music lovers will appreciate it. It’s one of my favorite singer-songwriter-like albums. It is utterly unique and beautiful. Justin Vernon got it right on the first try, and he wasn’t even trying. He was ready to give up on music and look what he did with what he had! A masterpiece. That’s that.

A former roommate would play this album every Saturday morning and it has become my soundtrack for many wonderful memories of that great period in my life. Every song is perfectly tracked. Thank You Bon! And thank you Scotte for introducing me!

This is my first review for any album and probably my last. For Emma is in my personal top 5 of all time. There will never be another album that catches more emotion in the unique way that this album does. You might not always understand the lyrics yet you still find yourself mesmerized by the masterpiece that Justin Vernon has made. Years later and it still holds true. Listen to this album.

Best album of the last ten years..The person who gave this 1 star is a child and his parents shouldn't let him review music.

There's such pure honesty in Bon Ivers lyrics and melodies, especially on this album. Beautifully haunting and mellow, more than words can describe. A true art form.
