I dream a highway was worth the purchase by itself, I really think Gillian and Rawlings are a perfect duo. Man I can't say how much I love this album!!!

It doesn't matter what "Genre" of music you usually listen to. You will relate to this album either musically or lyrically. Even Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers plugs this album! If you are thinking about buying it - GREEN LIGHT!
  • A deeply moving work of genius

I am old enough to have savored Blonde on Blonde and Astral Weeks since they were released. This album is that good. Like those records, it taps deeply into the subterrean and illuminates feeling states of which you were at best vaguely aware. The seamless connection between Welch and her partner David Rawlings (a stunningly innovative and sensitive guitarist), who are the only voices and players on the record, is beautiful, and culminates in the lengthy, hypnotic final track, which is on a par with Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands. This is a great work of art.

this is my favorite album of gillian welch's --- and i love them all. Timeless, profound, and wonderfully written and performed. I think this is their 'purest' expression of what they are so good at doing (Gillian Welch and her musical partner David Rawlings) Americana at its best!

When it comes to about songs about death and botany, Gil and Dave are the most astounding act since the Grateful Dead.
  • Spectacular...all ten tracks!

Top to bottom, from the haunting solos of David Rawlings on Revelator, through the spectacular disaster of the April 14th gig, to the incredible 14 minute I Dream A Highway, one of the best albums I have ever heard. The songwriting is truly inspiring, and the simple rythm guitar of Welch, with Rawlings masterful, heartfelt accompanyment, make this album a true joy to own...all ten tracks!!
  • Great American Novel

If there can be a musical counterpart to the great American novel, this album is it. Monumental. Quietly and stunningly so. For me, it is still the best complete work in any music genre that I have heard in the last 20 years.

Welch and Rawlings cannot be pigeonholed dismissivley. Turn up your nose at the mention of bluegrass or folk, then listen to this duo. The songs are poems set to Welch's throaty and aching vocals. The and melody and lyrics are devestating and wistful. Listen. Listen to the soulful silence beneath the music. I love Welch and Rawlings. I'm yet an aesthetic snob, but one who has turned 180 degrees. I own the music of the Damned, Radiohead, Tom Waits, as well as classical composers, Duke Ellington, etc. I believe that alongside any musical work the artistry of Revelator will be attested to by anyone who truly listens.

i only stared it a 2 due to the fact i have only heard 1 song. i bought it for the fact that the "quicksilver" record skip is in my favorite movie. the more i listen to the song, the more it reminds me of a horror movie. i cant listen to the song at night! She does have a very different voice which is needed these days.

An exquisite voice with perfect harmonies, singing well crafted songs. A rare gem of an album.
