Reviews

  • Holds up better than a couple of their latest releases (2018 review)

Excellent music that is fun to listen to. Excellent music to liven up a party and music to just put yourself in a good mood. Though the production isn't quite Dig Your Own Hole. Keep in mind this is when a couple years technology was evolving at rapid speed compared to nowadays anyways. They did fantastic for the tools they had at the time. All in all, you could not ask for a better debut from the Chemicals.
  • An album that inspired a genre

This album is so much more than the parts. It is one of those rare pieces of music that you play as a whole, rather than pick out singles. They, along with Prodigy, Orbital, and Sunscream pushed techno beyond the ooh ooh and piano stabs of house singles, and created music that was both conceptual and danceable at the same time. Sadly, the genre has fallen back into its old ways.

"Exit Planet Dust" is exhilarating with moments of stillness and beauty. It has that juxtaposition of music that shouldn't work but triumphantly overcomes and masterfully succeeds. Although not as frantic and action packed as "Dig Your Own Hole", "Exit" is better in it's freshness and pioneering spirit to boldly go where no sound had gone before. Featuring guest vocals by Tim Burgess (Life is Sweet) and Beth Orton (Alive Alone), "Exit" is defiantly the Chemical Brothers most organic album and my favorite. P.S..!!!! The first 6 tracks play out like a continuous mix followed by the single oriented final tracks!!! (Whaaat?! Another reason why it's my favorite CBs album.). I highly recommend purchasing the entire album in order to capture the true essence and spirit of this all time classic!!!
