Reviews

  • Johnny Winter's first album

This is essentially Johnny's first real album which was done in about 1968. It was re-released after the success of Johnny Winter the first Columbia album. You may note that Tommy Shannon plays bass for Johnny on on number of his early albums and then goes on to play with Stevie Ray Vaughn. Stevie gained much more popularity than Johnny but I believe if we could ask him, he would credit much of his style and influence to Johnny Winter. This is a great album, albeit not as polished as the Columbia albums.

This is a must own classic of Texas guitar-slinger blues. Johnny is young, raw, & great. His love for Muddy Waters & Chicago-style blues shines thru, as does his unique solo style. The acoustic cuts are total gems, highlighting Johnny's superb bottleneck technique & great ear for country-blues inflections. 5+ Stars for this all-time classic for late 60's.
