So many modern bands try to capture that certain feel or sound... Hm aren’t one of those bands that try... they simply were a new vessel for the restless spirit of 50plus years of beautiful music embodied in a young and fiery foursome. These songs are all brilliantly crafted miniature epics. I can only say, thank you!

The below review was written nearly 3 years ago before i really had a good feel for this album and this band. I still stand by most of what is written, but there are certain things that needed to be added. Not only has this album risen to one of my top 5 favorite of all time in any genre, Houndmouth has also grown to be possibly my favorite band. They have redefined what good music is to me. There are only two artists/bands i have ever listened to that gives me the thought "I only want to hear this for the rest of my life" and that's Houndmouth and Jim Croce. The praise can't be much higher. I can also add statistics for this album. They are about as high as any album on record. There are no songs lower than 4 stars. That's almost unheard of. There are six 5 star songs and six 4 star songs. Hey Rose being the best song on the album. I would give it 6 stars if possible. It's a shoe-in for a spot on the top 10 songs of all time. Below is the old review: This album was a great surprise! What excellent and breathtaking harmonizing! Their voices blend together so well that it literally almost hurts to hear. They were born to sing together. The writing is also deep and super catchy. I hear three distinct sounds when i listen to this album. I can hear two of my favorite bands in The Lumineers and The Head and The Heart. The one guy sounds almost exactly like the lead singer of The Lumineers, while their ability to haromonize is only equaled by The Head and The Heart. I can also hear a certain classic rock influence. Particularly, the song Penitentiary sounds inescapably like The Band. I almost get the feel of The Greatful Dead at times as well, weird as that is to say. I love the intelligent content, harmonies and the folk feel with just enough country influence without it being a redneck-fest. They fit right into the collection of my favorite bands and I look forward to more albums from this rising and talented band. I also deleted the section on negative reactions. There are none. :)

Not a bad song on this record. Quality songwriting, musicianship, and production. Well mixed, well-mastered, and all-in-all an A++ effort by a great band.
  • Absolutely love them!

The first time I heard one of their song on the radio I thought it was decent, but I wasn't in love with the sound until I happened to see them live. It was one of the best shows i have ever seen live and they just bring so much energy to the live scene.... its amazing. You cannot go wrong with this band.

Happened on this little gem while checking out new releases earlier this summer. The more it plays, the better it gets....and it was pretty good out of the chute. Lots of good tunes on here. Reminds me a little bit of Delta Spirit on a couple of them, but they break away with their own sound.

This album is fantastic! A great mix of rock, blues, folk and country. I'm in love, can't stop listening to it. Heard it on 89.7fm WTMD and downloaded it I'm obsessed.
