Guthrie is a monster player and can do anything it seems on the guitar. This album has catchy melodies and superb playing BUT the play time for all of the songs is under 3 minutes making this a pretty short album. It never feels like any of the songs get up and running. Maybe there was a concept that I missed for the lean track times but I feel like Guthrie never did what he is so good at, which is stretch out and spread his wings.

Talk about hitting the nail on the proverbial head aspect. I found your review was spot on. Your delivery was quite focused yet deliberate. A special thanks must go out for your overview of said artist.
  • Fantastic soloing but...

Gutherie’s playing is phenomenal as always, but please be aware these are not his compositions! This album is a series of background tracks with a “laid back West coast vibe” to which Guthrie adds spectacular guitar solos. It is NOT a solo album like the fantastic “Erotic Cakes” nor do the tracks even begin to compare with the excellent Aristocrats compositions. The backing tracks are hip, Steely Dan-ish vamps that provide a great launching pad for Govan’s soloing. I still have to give it five stars due to the quality of the playing.

This is one of those guys who everything he plays you want to hear. From his guest appearances to his studio cuts with the aristocrats and his solo stuff to his jam tracks. The guy is a guitar god. My only complaint is these songs are too short. Get back into the studio and make more albums! There's just not enough Guthrie Govan on my iPhone. I want more! The people have spoken.

As a guitar player of 30 plus years I am always looking for new influences of material. Sometimes it takes another musician to appreciate the level of dedication it takes to produce something of this quality. His chops are impeccable and tasteful vamps without being overkill as I hear from so many other guitar players. It has already influence my approach in playing style and I just downloaded this 15 minutes before writing this review. Bravo and I look forward to hearing future releases.
