This CD was my go-to selling those newfangled cd players in the early 80s. It still sounds magical today. Made me a lot of money really.

  • Jeff Porcaro Groovemaster extraordinaire

When it came to finding the perfect groove to fit a particular song.Jeff Porcaro utilized lots of different key elements. It enhanced the feeling and drive. So that's why he was highly skillful in that idiom. He wasn't afraid to explore all different expressions and rhythms. It didn't matter whether the groove was fast or slow.It had a danceable beat.So songs like Lido Shuffle and LowDown by Boz Scaggs were driven by the drums. As usual everything gelled together so perfectly. And that's why lots of singers and musicians wanted him as their session drummer. He will always remain my number one favorite heartstrings drummer of all time and gorgeous Dreamyeyed Angel.πŸ“²πŸŽΉπŸŽΌπŸ’œβ˜ΊοΈπŸˆπŸ“±πŸ˜πŸŽ»πŸ’›πŸ˜€πŸ’ΏπŸ˜ŠπŸŽΈπŸ’½πŸŽ·β€οΈπŸ“€πŸ’šπŸŽ§πŸŽ€πŸŽΊπŸ˜ˆπŸ―πŸ’™πŸ˜…πŸ˜ΏπŸ±πŸ˜‡πŸ˜‚. I bought this CD in 1984. It's the album I listen to the most. (I still have the CD). I read an article at the time that described how hard it was for the hired musicians to play as perfectly as WENDEL the sequencer made them play. The result of this perfection is jaw-dropping. The Nightfly is one of the best played, produced and mixed albums I've ever heard. It's also one of the earliest direct to digital recordings, as well. All hail Donald!

First, to Jennifersman: this is not a "Steely Dan album in all but name." This is Donald without Walter. Granted we all hear Donald's voice on most every SD song ever recorded, but this is Donald on his own as author. The essence of SD was to use as many different studio musicians as required to get the sound they were looking for and Donald doesn't stray far from that formula. I had the great opportunity to meet him out at the pool one day and he was gracious enough to sign my Nightfly album (it was the early 80s). I'll always have fond memories of playing this vinyl.
