I can't say enough great things about this album. Hearing an old story/piece through a fresh perspective gives it tremendous impact.

This the best Gospel album ever made. Still get the same chills hearing it as I did when I got it 20 yrs ago.

One must assume that the three "4"s and one "1" ratings resulted from clicking the wrong stars accidentally. HMSS remains one of the finest albums of any genre in any time period. The production is top notch as is the arranging. There are no poor performances on any track and I've found various people pick different tracks as favorite. As a long time lover of Handel's Messiah in it's original oratorio form, and having sung it almost yearly at Advent for decades, I was thrilled to see this album on the shelf twenty years ago. And doubly so as I deeply love and admire many of the artists on this project. Well, enough fawning and reminiscing ... Listen to the all-star chorus conducted by Q on the Hallelujah Chorus and the stomping "Glory To God" performed by the Boys Choir of Harlem and Buster Rhymes(?!!) -- but if you love the classical "Every Valley..." then first start your listening there, from the beginning of the track, LOUD. The most moving moments are "O Thou That Tellest" by Stevie & Take 6 (especially the last 2 minutes) and surprisingly, "I Know That My Redeemer Liveth" by Tevin Campbell. Did you forget about him. Yeah, I thought so -- well DON'T! "Lift Up Your Heads" by and The Clark Sisters is also highly recommended. Buy this! Gift it to all your friends for Christmas! And Mervyn, if you're still reading, THANK YOU and may God bless! Ps). Can you get me some charts or lead sheets form anything but the cChorus? I really want to do these in church.

Thank-you iTunes for making this compilation available to us. I've had this CD for years, wore it out, lost it and now found on iTunes. The title says it all; an awesome project that has not been duplicated in it's magnitude. "I love it!!!"

I am quite happy that I Tunes has acquired this tune so that it can be processed electronically. It originally came out on Cassette in 1992. Now this marvelous and soulful version of the Messiah with the likes of Quincy Jones, Patti Austin, Al Jarreau, Stevie Wonder, Vanessa Bell Armstrong, the Clark Sisters and many soulful others can be appreciated for its musicality, it's funky chord changes and it's magnificent percussion.
