A masterpiece big band jazz album! A beautifully written suite, performed masterfully by the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. Very nice to have a composer besides Wynton Marsalis (as great as he is) behind this. Another breathe of fresh air to add to some of the best big band recordings.

Just saw them perform this piece live in Dallas. Absolutely amazing. Nash & Marsalis commentary added a lot too.

Pleasant surprise - not one for "classical jazz," but really liked this CD - quite moving. Kudos to Ted Nash & the entire orchestra for this one.

An aural and artistic masterpiece. Reedman and composer Ted Nash here ponders great impressionist and modern painters, from the Monet opener to the Pollack close. Dali is discordant, Picasso alive with Spanish trumpet, and Chagall tinged with Judaic refrain. Matisse and Van Gogh are melodic standouts. A truly impressive outing by Nash, pianist Dan Nimmer, trumpet great and Jazz at Lincoln Center musical director Wynton Marsalis, and a talented crew. A must have for art fans and a demostration of real jazz talent alive today. Ted, you'd make Duke proud! Grammy for this one.

Jazz is Art. Art is Jazz. Ted Nash, the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra and the Metropolitan Museum of Art have collaborated on a beautiful tapestry of rich visual metaphors. This is the perfect iPod music accompaniment to lisen to while gazing and drifting away in front of the epic works of Monet, Dali, Matisse et. al. Portraits in Seven Shades will fill your audio sensory with rich brush strokes. Allow yourself the journey. Yours in Jazz, Edje
