  • Good for a summer night with some toast and a blanket

Went downstaris a few nights ago to listen to some music alone. Saw this album on a list somewhere, heard "Sunrise" and bought it the whole thing (Germs being my favorite track). I made some toast, got comfy on the couch, stuffed my ear buds in my head, and listened to the whole thing 3 times in a row. Captivating, worldly, and warm. Very enjoyable :)

This album plays like a great dusty novel reads... There are memorable moments throughout and great nuances that you may have missed the previous times. Definitely mood music.

I'm actually a bit upset really. This album is so amazing, and then yeasayer BROKE MY HEART when they came out with that god awful new album Fragrant World which is put to shame by this album, All Hour Cymbals. I wanted to go and search for another album or even a song like the ones on this album for the past WEEK and I've unfortunately discovered that this is not possible. This is a once in a lifetime album that apparently has no similar album. and NO this isn't like animal collective. This is so perfectly unique and it's all I have, so get this album and it will be the only album in the world to you.

This album is scattered, variable, original. It feels like something new every time you listen to it. Some of the songs will drone on and on, but in a good way, like you want it to go on forever. I especially love the second half of 2080, the way it enraptures with original and clever lyrics. The last track is also very spellbinding. It's good music to listen to on a summer evening.

I seriously listen to this album as I fall asleep every night. While listening to it, you can't help but to think of another planet with a strange, elaborate, almost Egyptian-like culture with a constant sunrise (probably thanks to the track "sunrise"). It's so amazing, I still get shivers when I listen to it, and I bought it over a year ago. Yeasayer are magical.

Okay, Yeasayer are some interesting sound makers...They must be Canucks I heard but don't get put off by that fact, there are some standout musicians on this release. Think of very drowsy, dreamy vocals with some space effects, piano sometimes, tribal drumming, etc. It all fits kinda nice esp. 'Waves' and 'Wait for the wintertime/summer.' Just take a sneak peak on the samples. Addictive.

This is a great album. It's even better live. Odd Blood is good stuff, but All Hour Cymbals really takes the cake. Beautiful harmonies, complex musical arrangements and a funky beat? Yes please!
