If your a true STP fan then this album will eventually be your favorite,If your a fake music listener that just likes to sound like they know great bands...you should just go buy Core or Purple and blow your mind up with them. This album is almost perfect, and is right where you would hope STP would be. Its frickin Awesome!

The Album is an amazing addition to the collection of short list of albums made by Stone Temple Pilots. Weiland's vocal range is excellent, as shown in the first three tracks, where he ranges from an album like "Core" on the song Dumb Love to the album Prior to this in "No. 4" on songs like Days of the Week. While many songs on this album are seen as more of a Pop-Rock genre than the normal Heavy Side of Alternative that we were used to, the band managed to stay in both genres at the same time. The prime example of this is "Coma" where the band is mixed between both. This album is fun, has its moments and is a somewhat decent album. Though the songs are mostly good, it's not the same Stone Temple Pilots that we love. This, just as Metallica did with St. Anger, is an experiment for them. This is an alright work, and like many albums, was used as a way to adapt to survive. The album is worthy of a 5.8/10 max due to lack of creativity overall. In would recommend, but not as much as Core or Purple.

Was always one album short of having the entire STP catalogue. HOW could I have missed this gem - great songs - very innovative while still rocking. RIP Scott
  • A great band at the height of their powers

This album shows what an incredibly versatile and gifted band this was, with its mix of classic STP rockers and rich, layered pop that the best of the 70s California bands like Fleetwood Mac and the Eagles would be proud to call their own. Scott Weiland's vocal range is without par here, showing without a doubt that he was the most gifted rock singer of his generation. He handles every genre the band throw at him with the ease of a master, his tones rich, fluid and resonant. This is probably the best vocal work of his career. Unlike the albums that sandwich it (No 4 and S/T) there's no filler here, no aimless riff workouts that defy melody. The heavy rock here is as hard and convincing as anything they ever recorded so I'm at a loss to explain some of the negative reviews. And there's a lot of it, too. There's a lot of everything, which is why this is the most remarkable album in their catalog. Maybe not as consistently excellent as Purple but its highs go as high if not higher. One of the great American rock albums of the alt.rock era.
  • The most mature STP was at the end

This is the most mature sound and musical connection that STP would find as a whole group before Scott parted from the band. This album is not a pop machine like Tiny Music. Nor is it a revisiting of older feelings like No. 4. No, this is a new and progressive push for the members that shows just how rich of a musical resonance they all had together.
  • I like it.

For those that say this is nothing like Core...that is true, and also the reason I like it so much. IMO Core was STP trying to fit into the "popular" genre of the time, they never really came into their own until Tiny Music, No.4, and Shangri-La. The entire band sounds great on this album, from the vocals to the guitars everything sounds tight and well organized. This is an album for Weiland and the boys to be proud of. Don't forget to check out their newest self titled album either if you like this!!!! Thanks for the great music STP!!!

When I first heard this album I thought it was terrible. However, at the time I was only familiar with their first two albums, core and purple, and hadn't listened to much else. I would recommend listening to their third and fourth album tiny music and No.4 first before testing this one out and you'll like it much more. This album is great blend of the two and I'm glad I gave it a second chance
