A major problem with so many death metal bands right now is they seem to go so heavy on flashy playing & extreme speed that other aspects that made the genre so great, like atmosphere, are left behind. Portal goes entirely against this trend, burying their music in a wall of sound. It sounds genuinely unnerving at times, and at others, downright terrifying. Definitely an acquired taste, but challenging yourself and sticking with it is very rewarding.

Phil Anselmo LOVES these guys and I wonder what Corey Taylor has to say about them.

Not sure what everyone is talking about by saying this is original for it sounds a lot like Incantation. Other than that it is a solid release but original it is not
  • Totally original..

It always baffles me when people who don't know what they're talking about leave pointless, idiotic reviews! Don't let the 1 star rating affect your decision about this album. It is an amazing, completely original take on death/black metal. If you enjoy music with no boundaries that isn't afraid to take risks, then check these guys out! Take it from a fellow metalhead. Buy this album yesterday!

Well thanks for your absolutely worthless review fire... Go review the worthless talentless band that you're spooging everywhere about and leave metal to the metalheads. This album is amazing in it's own way. They sounds very original and have created their own style, not sounding like all the other metal bands out there.

One of the best releases of '07. This Aussie band it not interested in being the fastest or having the most wicked solos. What Portal does do, is create an album of totally original Death Metal; truely disturbing music done with style.
