  • A VERY Underrated Album!

I literally bounced off the walls a moment ago after seeing EWF's "Heritage" here in iTunes and have just downloaded most of the songs from it. This album was released during a time when a new breed of musicans were hitting the scene and went relatively unnoticed. Because I've always loved their sound, and am fascinated by the songs that don't make radio play, of course I purchased it., and was not disappointed. The single "Heritage" is clever and timely for the type of musical acts that were popular at the time. But they returned to their roots with songs like "Daydreamn", "I"m in Love", and "Welcome", "King of Groove" was clever and funky as well. I think EWF was winding down during this period, but managed to produce an excellent album, blending their old school style, with new school beats.
  • "Daydreamin'" is Outstanding; As for the rest: Not so good

I am a HUGE Earth Wind and Fire fan. I bought and still buy their new releases without first hearing them (granted they don't release many recordings nowadays). Nevertheless, I can say without any hesitation that I did not care for this album and that "Heritage" is, in my opinion, their worst studio recording. Sure it had some decent cuts - "For the Love of You" is pretty good (until Hammer shows up); "Welcome", "Anything You Want", and "Good Time" are good; and "Daydreamin'" is magnificent (and saves this album from a two star review). Maybe I am stuck in their 70's heyday but it was not a good idea to incorporate so much New Jack Swing/hip hop (especially when the hip hop is not very good) into this recording because it watered down and even overwhelmed the EWF sound. Hammer? The Boyz? Really?!! Ironically, several years later, EWF would collaborate with contemporary artists on the album "Illumination" and succeed spendidly. Three Stars for "Heritage" at best.
