Arguably the best wu album. Purple tape lives long.

What Rae and Ghost were able to do on this album was incredible!!!!! Back when I started listening to WU back in the mid 90's when I saved up money to buy the purple (LOUD) tape. This changed how I looked at hiphop music every since then. I wasnt able to really appreciate what they were talking about until I got a little older when I could truly listen to what they were saying. UNBELIEVABLE work that was put into the album from beats to the insane lyrics and great guest appeareances from the Wu members. I don't think this album can be touched!!

From beginning to end, straight up and down, this is, pound for pound, still an epic amazing hip-hop album. Chef killed it. GFK killed it. A perfect Wu alumni classic album.
  • Ahead of its Time

Rarely do I feel compelled to write a review on an album; I must though for this one. For years I have heard that the "purple tape" (a reference to the limited edition tape release, I believe, which were purple) was a classic. Without question it absolutely is. While in 2015 not all of the songs on the album are compelling as they might have been when the album was originally released in 1994-1995, several are still very appealing and much better than most rap songs today. In fact, many of Chef and Iron-Man lyrics in this album can hold its own in comparison to some of the greatest rap albums ever made. And, I'd be remiss if I didn't give the RZA and other members from the Wu an acknowledgement their work on the album. All in all, if you are looking for pure mafioso rap, with witty word play, bravado, coupled with classic hip-hop beats and lyrics which are simply just ahead of its time, look no further than this album.
