I listen to this album over and over and never get tired of it. The music has a definite tribal feel but is still fresh and has good beats to it. I'll be looking for more Zap Mama!

Ancestry In Progress is one of the best Zap Mama albums currently out. From the beginning, with the Intro's background of a rocket launch, you know that this is going to be much more different than anything else you've previously heard. From Alright's sweet harmonies to Follow Me's frantic vocals, THIS is the best album this group has produced. Favorite tracks: Bandy Bandy, Miss Q-N, Ca Varie, Cache-Cache, Lesson No. 5, and the Bandy Bandy Carl Craig mix (only on the Bonus CD avaliable if you physically buy the album from a store).

What a treat to hear songs in Kiswahili sung so beautifully! I love the Euro/African mix of styles. Brilliantly done. Asante sana.

I just found out about Zap Mama recently and they are truly amazing. I now have quite a bit of their music and I haven't even listened to all of it yet. They are really inspirational and thrilling to listen to. This album has some awesome songs. I epecially love "Yelling Away" and "Miss Q'in." "Show Me the Way" is also pretty sweet. I think you should check this album out even if you're not into world music. The way Zap Mama fuses African sounds with more Western sounds on this album should please just about anybody's ears.

This extremely progressive artpiece is not my first aquaintance with World music, it is however my first introduction to the Zap Mama experience and I am very pleased. After listening to this album, I searched the web for more info on this lovely group and was even more pleased. I love the depth and unique sound of Marie's (lead singer of Zap Mama) voice. Through her smoky voice and jazzy, hip-hop grooves, I am drawn into a life drastically different from western culture and I am empowered as an artist, a woman, mother and a human. This album is truly a classic as it has so many textures of sound. A must-have for any music lover!
  • Zap Mama does hip hop and does it well

Zap Mama is always a treat to listen to, but this album is really a treat as she mixes up afro-pop sensibilities and world beat with hip hop and rap. The album is full of guest appearances from some of hip hop's most innovative and talented musicians such as Talib Kweli, Common, Erykah Bady and ?uestlove. The result is an infectous album full of smooth grooves, catchy beats and interesting lyrics. Some of the best tracks are Wadidyusay?, Yelling Away, Alright, Bandy Bandy and my favorite track, Miss Q'in. There are some misses such as Zap Babies that sounds more like Zap Mama's other more afro-pop songs that we are used to hearing from her and seems out of place on this Hip Hop infused album. Overall, it is an excellant album that gets me dancing, helps me chill out and is overall a pleasure to listen to. This cd doesn't disappoint and is well worth the money.
