When my son was very young he loved trains. My sister bought the cassette tape and gave it to us. It seems the insert talked about how John wanted to preserve some of the old trains songs. He poured through many many train songs looking for the right ones that would represent a culture that is pretty much gone now. While there are some childrens songs like The Little Engine That Could, there are others that really brings back a nostagia, and captures the mood and time perfectly. People Get Ready is probably my favorite. How simple, just get on board, no ticket needed. Last Hobo is just wonderful. The City of New Orleans sung in a way that you really follow the story. It makes you feel like the train is human, a Native Son of America. Arlo Guthrie wrote that song. John brings it to life. Steel Rails is such an upbeat song, make you feel rather free and easy. You might call it a children's album, I don't see it that way. It does what John wanted to do perfectly, that is, preserve an historical past now pretty much gone, soon to be forgotten.

This is another awesome example of john's talent. Sure its a train album and maybe geared for children. The catch is, John inspired the child that lives in all of us and his music whether its about trains or nature or the injustices of this cold world or the sweetest parts of life and love, he had a gift for reaching all generations. Thank God that his music has been so wonderfully preserved for all of the generations to come. This guy could and did sing about anything and I am so glad that my heart is connected to my ears, because hearing him sing, gets right to my heart.

Denver's got a nice voice, and this story's well told. My son loves listening to it as he knows the story from the book. I like the train sounds on the Burl Ives version better.

First of all, you bought a CHILDREN'S album about TRAINS! That explains why it has so many children's songs. You are obviously not very smart. It’s not a big surprise that a children's album about trains would include "I've Been Working On the Railroad." This is actually a wonderful children's album and is very precious to any adult fan of John Denver as well.

While I've been listening to John for literally my entire life, I never knew this album existed. It is definitely a welcome addition, and very reminiscent of his earlier and arguably best years.

I loved this album because it was like the John Denver I grew up with (I sort of stopped listening after the new age and love songs). Great voice, some fun rythyms. Sure it is a little train heavy but listen to each song and judge each. If you purchase the album just mix them in with all of your other John Denver songs/albums and you will have some great additions! I miss you John.

Before John died he wanted to record a childrens album similar to Peter, Paul, and Mary’s - this is it. John’s great voice makes this music easy to listen too. Not his typical venue, but that is not what he was trying to achieve. Kids of all ages can play this and sing along with John as he celebrates the train.

This was John's last c.d. before his death. It is a very good album about Trains. John won a Grammy for this album in 1998.

I'm getting train sick already. I have to admit that he has a decent voice, but really the trains. And what about all of these children songs? Wow, "I've Been Working On the Railroad", and "The Little Engine That Could"; that is a little outrageous. Maybe, try to sing some different songs to boost your confidence level a little. But yes, you do have a beautiful voice, you just aren't using it the right way. Thank you for your time.
