Reviews

  • The importance of consistency

Pushing new territory while also remaining consistent to a unique sound is a trick that many bands fail to pull off. One of the reasons I love Katatonia is that they’ve got this trick down to a science. As soon as I see an impending release, I know it will rock. This one will be on repeat for quite some time.

  • Katatonia is NOT melodic death metal.

I’m not huge into labeling metal categories, but in this case, someone wrote a review with a title saying that Katatonia is Melodic Death Metal. I feel the need to clarify Katatonia’s genre, because they are definitely NOT a melodic death metal band. Melodeath is my favorite genre, and Katatonia is my favorite progressive metal band. A VERY long time ago,( like a quarter of a century) Katatonia could have been considered melodic death metal with “Brave Murder Day” and “Dance of December Souls”. However, since that time, they completely changed their sound, and they have been a progressive metal band, or a progressive hard rock band that creates unique, beautiful music, with dark lyrics. If you like heavy music with melodic vocals, thought provoking lyrics that tell a story, and catchy guitar leads, this is the band for you.

This sounds almost like a new band. Cant quite place what has changed, everything just sounds bigger and more colorful and more tightly put together

Been a huge fan since Discouraged Ones and somehow the albums keep getting better and seen to evolve with me…every single song on this album is worth listening over and over again and it all flows pretty perfectly. Perfect production as well 🤘🏻🙌🏻
