So grateful for this music. He is crooning all the way through. Plenty of harmonica, guitar and piano. Another classic by the one and only Bob Dylan.

I’m usually very pleased with new volumes of Dylan’s Bootleg Series, but I’m not so sure about this one. It’s not revealing anything new, even though there are some good tracks. Additionally, with his heavy reliance on backup singers during this period, Dylan often gets lost in the mix. There are a lot of sloppy rehearsals and outtakes here. Some of the outtakes are great, but most are mediocre tracks that made sense to leave off studio albums. I hate to say it, but you might want to pass on this one if you’re not a hardcore Dylan fan.

Bob has already released a few of these outtakes, so ignore the duplicates, but these songs come from a time when his output was way underappreciated. I loved so much of his '80s stuff, and the rehearsals and alternate takes are just grand. Many of these tunes should move into the awareness of people who skipped over portions of this era. Dylan just cannot be topped.
  • A great addition to the Bootleg Series

I didn’t hate Dylan’s ‘80s releases as much as so many others apparently did. In fact some of my favorite songs came from this era. I really enjoyed Shot of Love and Infidels a lot. This compilation of unreleased cuts is just great. If this doesn’t make you reconsider Dylan in the 80s it really should. I love this latest “Bootleg Release.”

Can’t wait for the full release. “Too Late” is another Dylan classic. Fun to hear lines worked into songs that were publicly released. I was a bit skeptical about outtakes during this period but this song proves me very wrong.
