  • Mysterious doesn't even describe it.

With barely more than a bachelor's degree worth of music training I feel totally unqualified to say anything about this...except that I have an ear, and my ear doesn't lie to me. These vocal techniques are not heard by the western ear, and will almost offend most American/European listeners at first. But, ears wide open, you will be intoxicated slowly. Try one of the more approachable tracks: Polegnala e Todoroa; I dare you not to feel something. For almost 20 years this music has stirred in me an exquisite class of emotions that I can not relate to anything in my life. Is this music a bridge? To eastern music? To some untaught past? To my soul? Really, I'm not this dramatic usually. These sounds will break your parameters of what good music is.

Bulgarian folk music is so cleansing, uplifting and enchanting. It frees your soul, stretches it until it's thin and transparent; it fills your heart with so much love that it hearts, unless you share it.
  • The most wonderful, inspiring music!

I actually listened to this on tape in the early '90s and was amazed and delighted to see that it's on iTunes. You rock iTunes! This album is something really, REALLY special. Let it take you on an otherworldly ride!

I have been searching for this song (Polegnala e Todora) for ten years- no lie. I heard it on an Audi commercial when this couple rushes out of a church from a wedding into a car and the scene was set to this song. I immediately fell in love with the mezmorizing voices of the chorus. For me, it was the first time love was captured by music.

I remember when I first heard this record in early 90's. While I don't understand the words sung here, it is still easy to get swept away by the amazing singing. I highly recommend this record for curious music lovers, who have outgrown their Enya records. The state choir have made several records, but I still love this one the most.
  • Extraordinary, But I haven't the [Bulgarian] Words to Describe It!

First off, shame on iTunes for getting the titles to the tracks 10 and 11 confused... But, if you're downloading songs from this album, clearly "Polegnala e Todora" is very easy for the western ear, but try out a couple of other unique tracks like "Kalimankou Denkou," and the mislabeled track #11 "Mir Stanke Le." They, as well as most of the other songs on this cd are heartrending and completely amazing in their honesty, connection to the past, and their cry out to the future.. But learn about these unique artists and their art form...
