I like the Killers—aside from the unfortunate name—but this album feels uninspired. As I tried to figure out why, I noticed a direct quote from the Bible in the song Fire Bones (“fell upon [my] neck” from the Prodigal Son), and realized that these are mostly religious songs, and the musicians’ hearts just aren’t in them. My guess is that being older and having children makes it hard to sing about stuff like stalkers and twisted desires. But their music & lyrics had more passion and originality when they did.

I found after several listens two songs I could tolerate. His voice is so shrill and grating now, I can’t bear it. What happened???
