Wow! Every track on this album is full of epic alternative rock, incredible beats, excellent piano riffs and outstanding vocals. This is Joywave’s best album by far and I’ve had it on repeat since I purchased it. Joywave is one of my favorite new artists, and this album is a glowing example why I’ll be listening for years to come.
I listen to a lot of music and this is easily my favorite album of 2020 so far, and I hope it gets the spotlight it deserves. From the new tracks like “Funny Thing About Opinions”, so subtle remixes of past favorites like “Blastoff” there’s something awesome here for fans and new listeners alike.
Buy the album, you won’t regret it!

Joywave weren’t kidding when they said their new album had a very “spooky” feel to it. They’ve taken a new turn on this album with a darker, more introspective take on songwriting and sonic presentation. The lyrics on the album often focus on themes of personal relation to society and how people should act and feel, making a statement about breaking cultural norms. The title track focuses on the idea of “possessing” different personas or faces and how you might morph yourself depending on a social situation. This theme of self perception is very prominent throughout, and is something Joywave haven’t really tackled before. Sound wise, Joywave has a lot of darker instrumentals, with the album containing only one or two songs that are even in a major key. The instrumentals go from guitar ballads (I.e. the solo on Like a Kennedy) to funky synth beats on tracks like F. E. A. R. and Who Owns Who?
Overall, this unexpected move from Joywave has been a very enjoyable listen, and I’d highly recommend this album to anybody who is into quirky alternative synth-pop.
