After listening to this recording a few times, it lowered my expectations of Katatonia’s greatness. The previous last four albums brought higher expectations for City Burials. But it never matched 2016 The Fall of Hearts, even after a four year hiatus that this band needed to Enjuvenate there health and creativity. Because of Katatonia being a five star group of creative artists, there is still a need for this band to evolve in order for them to continuously be successful, they should step back to a heavier sound. Especially with Jonas Renkse voice being the strongest it’s ever been. Behind the Blood one of the songs from City Burials, was a good direction to look forward too before the albums final release. But it turned out to be the only song written that had a heavier sound besides the song Fighters, which seemed rushed and poorly recorded. Looking forward to a step back, sounds from Katatonia, like the previous albums Great Cold Distance, Viva Emptiness and Last Fair Deal, something more than a sleeping repertoire sound. There is hope for the next album in a few years, but if this band fails to step it up, it could be the last hooray for these great musicians.

I have been listening to this band for 2 decades. they just keep getting better and better. Decima from there last album is by far in my top 5 songs of all time... there music makes me rage out, cry, think and feel.. i hope to be listening to new music from these guys for years to come. as i drummer myself. i enjoy the simple yet somehow complexity of the drums in there music. and vocally and lyrically it is nothing short of amazing.. please keep up the wonderful music...

Katatonia never disappoints. Been my favorite band since I first heard them, which is odd, being I'm an extremely technical bassist most of the time.
  • Refreshing

I was wondering if Katatonia was going to disappear given all the changes and output but they are definately back and from the little bit I'm hearing, they continue to move forward with their sound (it's called "Progressing). I like the new edge and the more tuneful side as well. I don't know if people give enough credit for their sound to their vocalist...but they should.
