I loved the Avett Brothers but I’m afraid they have jumped the shark. I get they want to share their “political” feelings and be social worrier’s but give me a break. This is dripping with “look at us, we love cancel culture, support every left wing agenda, we are woke!” I think they cover every topic that polarizes people. For building a career on the backs of country folks and good salt of the earth people, they sure have sold out to Hollywood and the liberals. I give it one star, for the one good song: Better Here. Overall, too much of a lecture album for my tastes.

    A great message.
  • I agree with the politics but...

... I’m disappointed with the framing of the lyrics and lack of clever word play. This feels more like essays on social issues set to music than songs which capture the tragedy and pain of oppression. I was excited for this album because I do agree with these stances, and was expecting something like a folksy, soul searching Rise Against the Machine. Or maybe something like Old Crow Medicine Show’s “Hotel in Memphis”? This was a little too eager to preach without connecting the listener to the story they were trying to tell. The melody’s were great as always, though!

I miss the old Avetts. This album is no bueno. Long time fan from the beginning but I’ve not enjoyed this album or the one before it. The old original stuff is amazing though!! Raw Avetts, before The Carpenter, are all I can listen to.

I am a long time fan of the Avett brothers. I really love their new album, although it is different from previous albums. Their lyrics, as always, are both witty and touching, creatively addressing many of today’s social issues. I can hear the influence of many classic rock giants in this album, to include the Beatles, John Prine and others. But as always, their songs are completely original. Thank you Avetts for such a great album. Listening is a relief from these challenging times.

Glad these boys keep putting out the best music they can. Lots of scared one star reviewers that need to chill, it’s okay to be frightened especially when you realized the history you’ve been given was a lie. But take your time, you are still loved and this is still the Avetts you thought you knew but never saw between the lines. Keep it it up boys and we’ll done. Now giddy-up!

They get 4 stars for the simple fact that they are the Avett Brothers. But, I can’t give that 5th star for this album. It’s just very different from their usual greatness. Maybe they got a little too political and/or wanted to change the pace a bit. There are 2 or 3 really good songs on the album. I’ll be impatiently waiting for their next great album.
  • Outstanding new album

Love the Avett Brothers and the heart and energy they bring to every album! Anyone who gave this a bad review must be a little defensive about the truth they write in their lyrics.
