An absolute joy to listen to defiantly not as good as his old stuff but still great nice to see he’s not selling out
What did I just listen to? Game over
I am loving this.
I have everything Moz has put out in vinyl, cd and digital. This song collection is a departure but a fantastically orchestrated journey into what I feel is MOD music. It is okay to differ, giving you permission. I am not a hater, life is too short, and as he progresses in life and in his artistry, I am thrilled at how he captures where he is at the time. These songs work in so many ways but the production is damned good, really well done. Bravo.
Blue eyes crying once again
Moz just straddled two worlds with this new albums of covers. California Son is s nostalgic trip with mostly protest songs from decades past, songs about the underdog masses, the poor.
The other world is one is his personal political statements and "dog whistle" moments like controversial pin wearing on TV.
I am a few years older than Morrissey and he is the last person in the world who I would have predicted to have become a middle aged grump and not in a million years a person who would take the side of the oppressors.
His past few albums had anger which is a legitimate emotion to write into a song but these days that anger is not directed at those in power but those without. His wonderful wit has vanished and compassion turned to loathing.
California Son may not have been Morrissey's idea completely although some of his best recording in the past several years have been covers of artists who inspired him. Perhaps his manager or a very dear friend suggested it was time to chill out on new material and do one of those “my career is over and to prove it here is a nostalgic album of classics which won’t rock nor rock anyone’s boat.”
Morrissey thank you for decades of music many of which I still listen to, you will be missed.
Morrissey always finds a way

Lol. I love how Morrissey’s selection shows us how, although music fads come and go, the current topics that plague us socially today are more so if not the same fifty years ago.
Very retro and so honestly modern.
The arrangements are great, perhaps not ‘magical fake music sound machine’ button friendly enough for younger ears.
Scratch that reverse!!!
What a singer!
Beautiful album! Good choice of songs that shows Morrissey has great musical taste and knowledge! Love the wide range of instruments played on this. I'm not sure how he manages to sound better the older he gets. His vocals are pure delight! Unfortunately the whole thing will most likely be overshadowed by the recent media noise! Its a shame!

Love this guy always have..... love this album music and lyrics.
Wedding Bell Blues? No. Not even from Morrissey. Embarrassing, trite, and silly. Unforgivably so following the fantastic cover of Roy Orbison’s It’s Over.
Morrissey sounds great
Lenny’s Tune is one of the most beautiful songs Morrissey has ever performed . His voice is still as powerful as it ever was .
Morrissey paying tribute to some forgotten tunes in his own way . Wish “Back on the Chain Gang” was included .
