Karen, My Favorite
5
By Jimmy McCully
Karen Carpenter had the smoothest, breathless, beautiful voices I have ever heard. In this CD the songs I liked the most are Now- So effortlessly delivered (One take, as someone said) perfect
Ordinary Fool- Emotion shown in this Paul Williams written song
Two Lives- One of my favorites and reminds me of another song that Karen did on Passage CD-Two Sides- I love the melody along with the chorus and bridge- perhaps my favorite on the CD
Fun song- Sailing on the Tide, Primetime Love
Your Baby Doesn’t Love You Anymore- I think this may have been a single released, mellow
Make Believe It’s Your First Time- also a single, kind of a departure from the squeaky clean image of the Carpenters, a kind of Like a Virgin, but slow and melodic
Look to Your Dreams- Richard Carpenter/ John Bettis - A beautiful end to an album and sad knowing that Karen had dreams that were never realized.
What would she have sung if she had lived?!
