I have to agree with another reviewer who complained that Roy's voice is overshadowed here. Although orchestral embellishment of these dramatic songs may sound like a good idea (and it worked for some of the Elvis songs - "Bridge Over Troubled Water" with the Royal Philharmonic is incredible IMO), the Orbison originals already had great production, with so much drama and emotion in the vocals. They even slowed down Roy's voice on some selections on this album for dramatic effect (e.g. Love Hurts and Blue Angel, the original of which is my favorite Roy Orbison song), but it's a mistake. Stick with the originals, with maybe one or two exceptions: I like what they did to "Mean Woman Blues" here; the horns give the song extra spirit and punch. And "You Got It" sounds pretty good. But please avoid the last track, where somebody named Ward Thomas "duets" with Roy. Gotta draw the line there. Reminds me of the blasphemy that was Celine Dion singing "If I Can Dream" with a hologram of Elvis on American Idol.

Mr. Orbinson doesn't need any help. Just him and his guitar satisfies.

I still give it 4 stars because Roy is that good. But this to me is like colorizing classic B&W films or George Lucas changing Star Wars...Don't fix it!

First Elvis' album with the RPO, and now Roy Orbison. Simply exquisite! Great release that deserves some serious airplay! Classic.

I grew up with Roy’s music and knew he was one of a kind. That voice with beautiful emtional music. As a life long fan I was so glad to see his family and others bring back his music to newer generation and looked forward to this new release. And OMG did they bring it back to life. With the mix of the an outstanding orchestra they have taken Roy’s music up to a much higher level. Well done to everyone. Must buy!

This is Roy Orbison at his best! It makes the heart ....and the voice soar.
  • The arrangements sound beautiful, but...

I find that Roy's voice is buried underneath the lavish orchestral production. I think Roy's vocals should be more prominent in the mix and the orchestra should be a bit lower. Maybe it's just the sample tracks provided by Apple that sound that way or maybe it's just my lousy speakers. Not sure.
