  • Butchery of the cover art

Love the music but the beautiful cover art is horribly ruined by the superimposition of an ad for 50 Shades of Gray. I would not have purchased it if I had perceived that would be the case.

This specific genre of music is just amazing. This is also a very important kind of music.

Thomas Tallis' music is the play of sunlight and shadow given voice, the human voice. Transcending and timeless, Tallis' music is flawlessly recreated by Peter Phillips and the Tallis Scholars.

Speaks more of longing, belief, searching, devotion and God than most churches you'll walk into. This music does the same thing all those cathedrals do - it lifts you, inspires you and takes you to a better place with soaring grace. I first found this cd shortly after it came out, but then lost it in a dog related chewing incident. My delight when I found it again on iTunes was unbounded! Listening to it reminds me again why I loved it: in an age full of noise, dissension and anxiety, this recording makes room for refreshing peace.
  • Spem in Alium-Music to Transport the Soul-

Twenty five years ago my family sent me the gift of a cassette recording of Spem in Alium along with other works of the Renaissance. I began by listening to Spem in Alium with earphones it was as if I had left the temporal world behind finding my soul and spirit being transported into eternity. Slowly at first with a treble initiating the augmentation of voices. It was like the first shaft of light breaking the darkness. The sound continues to grow surrounding the listener with eight five part choirs, which is a foretaste of Heaven. This music made such profound effect on me that I set out to find the best recording available, which according to my research and ears was the Tallis Scholars. All of the music of Thomas Tallis is awesome, and the Tallis Scholars both artistically and technically breath life into the work where you can hear the multiple choirs surrounding you better than any other recording I've heard.

This music is so exquisite and "pure" sounding I feel as though it grabs at my very soul and pulls me into a different time and place; very moving.

This album not only captures the composers original polyphonic structure, but its high quality technical sound recording brings back the light of Tallis's genius, the greatest music of the 1500's. Some of the finest choral pieces I've ever heard. I commend you. MARVELOUS!

If there ever were an album that could transport one into the age of Henry VIII, Archbishop Cranmer or Thomas Cromwell, this is it! Peter Phillips' painstaking study of 16th century music makes for a truly authentic sound. Well done Tallis Scholars!
