Unique like many Stereolab albums, this one is a bit slower, a bit more meditative... More about soft layers and creating spaces with much less distortion than their earlier stuff and more deliberate melodies... synths/bells/vibes... alien... awesome...

I am a huge fan of Stereolab, and I wasn’t quite sure what to make of this album when it was released. Fortunately, I gave it a second chance, and the beauty and magic started to reveal itself to me. While still using some of the same colors in their palette, they use them in different ways. Old sounds new, techno sounds analog. This is an album that begs to be heard all the way through. And yes, as is usual per iTunes, the best song is the one available with purchase of the album only. Buy the whole album anyway.

Twenty years after its release, this album can safely be deemed a "classic" as well as the group's very best. Sonically, many influences have been cited by critics but traces of latter day Canterbury (Hatfield and The North, Kew Rhone) cannot be discounted, at least not on "Dots and Loops".
