Future Games

This might be FM's best album, it's definitely their most intriguing. Recorded in '71, I hear influences from CSN, or maybe even early Pink Floyd. It was a turn from the blues/rock they'd been playing up 'til then. (Reading old reviews, the critics clearly didn't understand what they were doing at all.) Melodic & harmonious, with a mellow steady groove that goes from start to finish, this album sounds like the closest FM ever came to doing prog. "Future Games" concerns the thoughts we have at night about what's to come, with "Sometimes" and "Sands of Time" sharing similar themes of looking forward & backward at life. Christine McVie contributes strong tracks with "Morning Rain" and "Show Me a Smile." People keep happily discovering this one, imo Danny Kirwan's creative peak.

Talent of Danny Kirwin on full display before he and Peter Green went mental after a bad trip in Germany. He’s been in a nervous hospital for so many years. This LP is a masterpiece.

...this is the best Fleetwood Mac album, in my opinion. Yes, Rumors is much more popular and has the hits. But this work is their artistic masterpiece, pop ratings be dammed (misspelling intentional). Just put on your headphones, don't be in a rush, and listen to Morning Rain and Sands of Time. You will be transported to an intricately melodic happy place. And this is due in large part to Danny Kirwan who passed away on Friday June 8, 2018, evidently poor and homeless. But he left a legacy that I still enjoy more than any other in the FMac catalog.

My favorite Fleetwood Mac album!

This song is a masterpiece. Danny Kirwan was incredibly talented but unfortunately troubled. Also the best looking member of FM, sorry Christine and Stevie.

Future Games and Tusk are definitely tied for my favorite Fleetwood Mac albums. Both albums show the band trying something new, and both times it payed off tremendously. I know this album has been criticized for its long, winding tracks that don't seem to have been edited down much, but thats a huge part of what I love about it. This is an album to get absolutely lost in. The album opens and closes with two of the most beautiful songs in Fleetwood Mac's catalog. The title track is a glorious psychedelic journey that I can just melt away to, and the nuance in the guitar work is something to behold. Danny Kirwan is one of my favorite songwriters ever to pass through Fleetwood Mac, and this album showcases his talents better than any other. The opener is in my opinion the best song he wrote for Fleetwood Mac, and one of my all time favorite songs. His other contributions to this album are prime examples of his talent as well. This album also feels very ahead of its time in the world of Fleetwood Mac. I hear so much of Stevie Nicks's style in this record, and I know she would have fit right in with this lineup and sound. As far as I'm concerned, this is a must-have in any classic rock collection.
