  • Still a great album…34 years later!

Funny story…I purchased an album by Lips, Inc. (the one with the song “Funky Town”) then tried to return it to the record store so I could exchange it for this album. It was already opened and for those who remember buying vinyl records back in the day, it was nearly impossible to return an opened LP. I finally convinced the clerk to take it back and went home with my new Roberta Flack album. I never regretted the exchange and later found the album on CD. Most reviewers are correct ONLY regarding the fact that “Back Together Again” is in its edited version. Other than that, all of the tracks are from the original recording. In any event, you will enjoy revisiting this album if you are familiar, or if you are a recent Flack fan.

This album was being recorded when Donny made his exit from his earthly bounds. The line-up on this set is correct BUT "Don't Make Me Wait Too Long" clocks in as a whole at 7:48 and "Back Together Again" here is the single edit, the original album length is 9:48. This is my problem with Rhino, they LOVE edits. Rather harsh, these edits strip away so much production the artists wanted us to hear. This album was released around the height of disco which explains the dance song length in 1979 and "Back Together Again" was a dance-floor staple even though it wasn't a major hit and "Only Heaven Can Wait" with all it's reverb and Roberta waaay down in the mix received moderate airplay. The hard-copy of this cd contains Roberta's poem to Donny and it's a touching sentiment.

Anyone thinking downloading songs from this beware,it's not the original LP! "Don't Make Me Wait Too Long" was NOT live on this LP!

I have this album on vinal and CD. The track list differs. Many songs are missing, and those on this release are either shortened or live versions. Still great music, but it is not the album you think it is. Please check song samples first before buying it. Maybe it was the UK version... I don't know... I just recommend you sample before purchasing.

Great album I believe this was Roberta's way of paying homeage to Donny Hathaway and holding on to the last memories. My dad had the vinyl and in the linear notes she wrote this poem dedicated to Donny. It was very touching. Good album -- Awesome singing! Luther Vandross sung background on this album as well -- Another great singer -- gone before his time -- He and Donny are up in heaven touching everybodies hearts!
