Description

Claire Randall is reunited with her husband after returning from the battlefields of World War II. While on their second honeymoon she walks through one of the ancient stone circles that dot the British Isles and is suddenly transported to 1743 Scotland, torn by war and rogue Highland clans. Hurled back in time by forces she cannot understand, Claire is catapulted into intrigue and danger when she is accused of being a spy. Forced by circumstance to marry an outlawed Highlander, she finds herself falling in love and torn by her loyalties to two men in vastly different times, all of which may threaten her life and shatter her heart.

I read the books when they first came out and would have rated them five stars back then. And when I saw the titles of the new series I was ecstatic and have not been disappointed once the actors and the sets are perfection like they read the authors mind. Thank you so much for this!

It’s in parts true to the book and in other ways a world better than the book. I love that in the series that Clair isn’t as whiny as she is sometimes in the book. They have empowered her more in the series. And what’s great about this series is if they do change something in the scenes that isn’t exactly like the book I’m not fretting over it because it’s meant to bring the books to life for a different kind of audience than just readers. I just love it 100% and it makes me happy and giggly as if I were reading the books again for the first time. They have definitely casted the right lead characters and they work so well together, the chemistry is just there and that’s what makes this show worth watching 😉

I'm actually writing more of a feedback to the reviewer who wrote 'good but there's a big inaccuracy'. He/she claims that Claire's knowledge far exceeded that of a nurse, or albeit, a general practitioner, during her time. I would just like to note that my grandmother was a professional nurse during WWII and during those days nurses were closer in education to a general practioner would be today, in relative terms, simply because they had to be. There were always shortages of medical professionals due to the ravages of war and alot of these woman had to learn 'on the job'. If teamed with a 'professional' doctor(s) they would have been trained in skills far exceeding their station and training. Alot of the serving woman, some of them providing medical care directly on the front lines, closer than a doctor would have been, had to make important decisions and needed the know-how to treat the wounded with horrific injuries. Woman also served as apprentices to doctors in the field due to constant shortages. If Claire had spent 6 years serving as nurse during the war, indeed her particular station and experience could very well have provided her with a multitude of skills. A lot of nurses became doctors after the war ended due to this.

Great soundtrack throughout, sublime scenery and great mood including several very funny moments. So, why 2 stars instead of 5? Claire’s medical knowledge far exceeds that of any general practitioner physician, even though she’s only a nurse from 1945. Her knowledge includes Internal Medicine, Traumatology, Obstetrics AND Physical Therapy. That’s one Physician, two Surgeons and one Physical Therapist merged into one person, who again, happens to be a nurse. My problem is: next thing you know, she’s gonna pop a cane and change her last name to House. If the writer wanted her to be so good in medicine, why not just make her a doctor instead of insisting on filling the series with things that just make you nod in disapproval concerning reality. Yes it’s sci-fi, but that doesn’t mean it happens in another universe where people like architects build spaceships and engineers draw buildings instead of it being the other way around. Plus, episode 16 was just ridiculous in terms of writing and storytelling. Honestly, what is it with STARZ and homosexuality? Do they have to include it in each series they make? It has become a signature of theirs.
