I knew when I saw James Spader as the star it would be great and it has been fantastic. Beyond my expectations. The last time I was riveted to my TV was when Dallas was on. This is so much better. I didn’t know any of the other actors but I sure do now. The best group of people I have ever seen work together. Cynthia Powell

  • One Charismatic Character Can’t Save This Show

Watch a few episodes of this show and you will probably be fascinated (Jealous?) of how utterly “In Control” Spader’s character is. Wouldn’t we all like to be that powerful? But not even Jesus in the Bible exercised the kind of wildly perfect timing we see in Reddington. Everything just unfolds perfectly for him, and he always knows exactly what to to say and do. And no human being can do that. The other major problem with this show is one I have with many other shows and movies: Folks, you can’t have a machine battle on a bridge in N.Y. or D.C. featuring huge explosions and mass death without it drawing attention for miles around. And after such a battle, you don’t just act like “the show’s over” and 10 seconds later you’re staring into space looking dramatically pensive. It’s just wrong to write these stories that have nothing to do with the way law enforcement could or would ever behave. I grew up inside the beltway, and my parents both worked in D.C. Nothing like you see in this TV ever happened in terms of car chases or gun battles, apart from the 911 attacks. Maybe all really good stories have already been written.

The storyline is very intriguing, but also very rushed and slightly unrealistic. The FBI is not nearly as stupid as they seem to be without some super criminal's help. Also why does Agent Cooper's only role seem to be barking out blatantly obvious and stupid commands? I do love Spader though. The visual effects are atrocious. For instance, no private jet flies so low to the ground. If a house were to explode in a residential area, or a plane were to fall out of the sky, the damage would be exponentially greater. That said, the special effects are cheesy and hardly realistic. Despite these hiccups, the story is very well written and I can't wait for more episodes.

Just discovered this show recently and I thought I give it a shot because James Spader ... I wasn't disappointed; he is just an amazing actor. Some of the visual effects are rather "cheap" but I still give it a 5 stars because James Spader's performance makes up for it. By the way ... is it just me or does agent Keen's husband look like Edward Snowden?

NBC trying to go all gritty and edgy and cable, and mostly failing. Without Spader doing his Hannibal Lecter schtick and some excellent guest stars, there'd be very little to recommend about it. The rest of the cast, especially the young woman doing the Jodie Foster to Spader's Lecter, are totally bland and dull tv-level actors. The writers steal from every playbook they could get their hands on. Some episodes are just too dopey and preposterous to watch, and even the best aren't very well written. Most revolve around (a) viewers suspending an awful lot of disbelief and (b) FBI professionals acting like morons. Since we've all figured out the young woman's relationship to Spader by the end of the pilot, that side-arc, like the one about her husband, isn't exactly riveting. It's okay for lite entertainment if you switch off your credibility filter, but it's no biggie.
  • Cost: Season Pass vs Per Episode

Why must I pay ~$65 for Season 1 (per episode cost), after I go above the $24.99 Season Pass price point? It costs ~$30 to buy on BluRay, yet iTunes will not let me buy a Season Pass now and instead wants me to pay $65, twice RRP! I don’t understand the reasoning/maths behind such a pricing structure, either the cost of the season is $25 or $65. It’s also evident that in this situation, once you have exceeded the Season Pass amount, is inexplicably irreversible. At the very least, iTunes should build in a warning saying that Season Pass will be unavailable after if you proceed with the purchase of this episode, God knows iTunes have an inordinate number of pop-up windows at point of purchase regarding far more trivial matters, so what’s one more? This conduct is arbitrary, opportunistic and tantamount to a penalty. Poor form iTunes, please revise this practice.

James Spader is absolutely amazing in this show. The show is addictive...you will find yourself watching episode after episode. Great story line, keeps you asking questions (in a good way), and not a cheesy criminal drama like other shows recently. Highly suggest this show to anyone!
