Description

Looking for a top-notch cartoon? Look no further than Top Cat! From Hanna-Barbera, this classic half-hour cartoon series debuted in 1961, but the characters and antics truly stand the test of time, making it the purrfect show for kids and big kids alike. Top Cat — or T.C., as he is known to his cohorts Benny, Choo Choo, Fancy and Brain, not to mention the ever-present-yet-one-step-behind Officer Dibble — is one clever, charming and conniving cat … literally! Always ready with a humorous quip or a hustle, this cat with a porkpie hat rules the alleys of New York City with his fellow felines, plotting plans to pinch a penny or simply poking fun at the hapless Dibble. It's a good thing cats have nine lives, because with Top Cat’s knack for making trouble, he’s going to need every one! Catch all 30 episodes here on iTunes for the first time —or the first time in years — and see why Top Cat has earned a top spot in viewers’ hearts!

Top Cat was always one of my favorites as a kid. It was right up there with Under Dog and Tennessee Tuxedo. It was the kid-safe version of the shows our parents watched and even managed to sneak in a life lesson now and again - even though we didn't know it at the time. Back before gaming consoles and home computers; TV was the babysitter of choice for moms and dads who just wanted an hour of peace once in a while. Thirty years later, I can relate and, if I had to make the choice, I would choose Top Cat for any kid over a video game or the web.
  • Not As Great As "The Flintstones", But Still....

In 1960 Hanna-Barbera struck gold in prime time television with "The Flintstones". The success of "The Flintstones" among audiences of all ages opened the door for more animated shows in prime time, including the Flintstones' futuristic counterpart "The Jetsons". "Top Cat", from the same era, was yet another effort at creating a prime time hit, yet while most of us have grown up on "The Flintstones" and "The Jetsons", this show is not quite as well-known, at least in North America (it's a different story in Latin America and the United Kingdom). I, for example, have not heard of this show until I was a teenager. Still, this show offers something for all ages, and its theme song is just as catchy as that of "The Flintstones."
