Description

Controversial throughout World War II for his personal flamboyance, outspokenness, uncompromising standards, and aggressive combat strategy, George S. Patton played a key role in the headlong Allied armored thrust to Germany after D-Day. Now, following the success of the series Battle 360, HISTORY brings viewers an epic new series about Patton, one of America's most famous generals. Patton 360 weaves a mix of CGI battle scenes, interviews with historians and men who fought under Patton, and commentary by modern-day military experts, offering a dramatic 360-degree view of the brilliant strategy and leadership Patton exemplified as he beat back the Nazi tidal wave in WWII. Patton 360 not only puts viewers right in the action of the primary battles fought by Patton in North Africa, Sicily and Europe, but also provides them with unique insights into Patton the man, known to his troops as "Old Blood and Guts."

  • Good History. Annoying Format.

An entertaining retrospective of Patton's advance. The problem is the format. Too much "made for TV short attention span" as it re-hashes what you just watched every few minutes. Extremely annoying. It's too bad commercials have such an influence over what could otherwise be a good history lesson if a bit one sided. Not much talk of our allies. Not much footage either, but a whole lot of the "video game" re-enactment. From time to time, it would be o.k., but this series uses it relentlessly and it is beyond annoying. Overall worth a look, but I wouldn't buy it again purely on the low-end formatting and production. For Gods sake, stop repeating everything and MOVE ON! I'm NOT spending any more money on your series until improvements are made.

Repitition is the name of the game, mostly to kill time! Misinformation is the theme. Dramatics to wow and awe the uninformed! There is no glory in war, except to those who have never experienced it!

I'm not a war buff or computer geek but this show is incredibly addicting- so much so that I called my grandfather after the show and asked him about what I didn't know.

Patton was a great but commonly forgotten general. Ive read alot of books about World War 2, but only a few mention his name and none tells what he did for our country. He did some foolish things, like risking his men just to get his son out of a German POW camp, but he was still a great leader in our countrys history. He's right up there next to George Washington,Dwight Eisnhower, and MacArthur. Patton served in both world wars. Anyway about the show itself, its great. Love the graphics. I need to check out battle 360.

The animation is used well, there are none of those forever-long Enterprise rent-a-car commercials that pervaded Battle 360, the subject material is interesting, and they do a good job of presenting it. I also like how they dont fall into the familiar trap of following the action: even when the focus of the Western Front moves elsewhere they stay focused on Patton. Now for the pet peeves: Some of the animation is reused from Dogfights and Battle 360 (admittingly, Battle 360 used about half of its animation from Dogfights, so this is a comparatively small complaint), the little numbers and angle signs reenforcing the "360 degrees" part is distracting and a little annoying, and the narrator can be a bit too gung-ho for me at times. But mostly my biggest complaint has little to do with the show itself: that the History Channel executives are trying to pass this off as a replacement for Dogfights. I miss Dogfights.
  • Good WWII info - stupid modern comparative

This is a good WWII 360, and good commentary from the vets. The one part I dislike is the when they take a WWII situation and compare it to how it would be different with today's military technology. Keep that info for another show! Do the producers have A.D.D., or do they truly think those diversions are really relevant?

Good general overview of the North African and Italian campaigns led by Patton and Montgomery. My only annoyance, and it's the same with Battle 360 Enterprise, are those stupid and distracting compass rose graphics that pervade all the CG animations and stock footage. Why the creators thought that was necessary or an interesting addition and how it escaped the test market I don't know. If the creators are reading this, please get rid of that for the next season!
