Description

Created by frequent collaborators David Simon and Ed Burns ("The Wire" and "Generation Kill"), this six-part limited series is based on the acclaimed Philip Roth novel. Starring Zoe Kazan, Morgan Spector, Winona Ryder, John Turturro, Anthony Boyle, Azhy Robertson and Caleb Malis, the series imagines an alternate American history during World War II, told through the eyes of a working-class Jewish family in New Jersey as they endure the political rise of Charles Lindbergh, an aviator-hero and xenophobic populist, who captures the presidency and turns the nation toward fascism.

Simon and Burns did a great job expanding the scope of the Roth novel. Performers are uniformly excellent, with Zoe Kazan and Anthony Boyle as stand-outs (unfortunately ignored by Emmy voters). Not an easy watch by any means, especially given the current state of the U.S., but it has stuck with me for months.

Slow and boring, had to shut it off 3/4 through the first episode. Could care less about any of the LIFELESS characters. JUST WATCH FOX NEWS - largest group of simple minded pricks that vote against their own self interests and want to see America burn to the ground! A bunch of utter cowards that support Russia and have a Draft Dodging PIG as their leader.
  • An excellent miniseries

I’ve read and loved the book (as I have every Philip Roth book) and enjoyed this limited series just as much. It is not a scene for scene replica of the book, and isn’t intended to be. The others complaining about it are either illiterates, or are Trump voters who recognise themselves in the Nazi sympathisers depicted in the TV show and have been make uncomfortable. Or both. That’s probably the only recommendation you need.

Read the wonderful book by Philip Roth. This is a very poor adaptation. Overdone and drawn out.

I have no idea how this crap gets produced, the title is misleading, the plot is empty and the acting, oy vey! Hollywood people need to get back to making real movies and leave their WW2 dark fantasies behind. Skip, not worth it.
