Description

The sun-soaked world of a group of past and present football players in and around Miami, FL is the setting for this half-hour comedy series starring Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson. Created by Steve Levinson (“Entourage,” “Boardwalk Empire”) and featuring cameos from sports stars and journalists, the show follows various players as they navigate life off the field. Leading the pack is Spencer (Johnson), a retired superstar who is trying to find a foothold as a financial manager to current players. Within his inner circle are talented but volatile wide receiver Ricky (John David Washington); Charles (Omar Miller), a reluctantly retired lineman struggling to adjust to life after the game; and rookie sensation Vernon (Donovan Carter), who lands himself in hot financial water. Troy Garity co-stars as a top-tier sports agent and Rob Corddry as Spencer's larger-than-life boss.

Reviews

  • Started off good, then got way to political

First two seasons were entertaining and enjoyable, though the decline did start towards the end of season 2. The last two seasons were horrible and I almost stopped watching it was so bad. Like most things in Hollywood, they turned the show into a poorly executed political theatre. In an attempt to shine a lot on social issues, they actually furthered displayed the racial bias and acceptance of “victims” who drive around in Ferraris and are millionaires in their own right. Give me a break.
  • Show took a strange turn in late season.

The first two seasons were fantastic and gave us a look behind the scenes of the lives of current and ex-football players. But later seasons focused on the business and political struggles. Spencer bouncing from one venture to the next felt like a rush and unorganized attempt to cover as many social issues as possible, but made a far less interesting TV show.

I like the series but it’s just yeh
  • Yet another great show ruined with politics.

What started out a fantastic show evolved into the same Hollywood cliche; the focus on a good, successful show was lost to the self importance of the people making it, and they had to put their specific political opinion in it and make it look like their personal opinions and views are the obvious and only correct political perspective. I was actually happy to see it end.
