I could watch this series over and over and never get bored. Perfect casting, and brilliant portrayal of a woman who not many knew of before.

Cozy yourself up on the couch with a mug of something hot and watch this series! Having the opportunity to watch this show was completely serendipitous. I was home sick over a holiday weekend and just happen to be doing a free trial of HBO. I saw from the stock photo that it was likely a period piece so I decided to give it a try. I was hooked five minutes in. The cinematography is breathtaking, the writing is spot on, the acting is really superb. To think that a lot of what happened was mostly true - based on tedious diaries that Ann kept. I fell into quite a rabbit hole after finishing the series. This show deserves every nomination it is eligible for!

I’ve been a fan of Suranne Jones for years. Having watched her in various shows / movies including Scott & Bailey, Dr. Foster and Unforgiven, Gentleman Jack, in my humble opinion, has catapulted Suranne’s career to the stratosphere!! Her acting is in a word: magnificent. The entire cast of Gentleman Jack, including the beautiful Sophie Rundle as Ann Walker and Gemma Whelan as Marian Lister, are skillfully and expertly directed under the wonderful and watchful eye of Sally Wainwright. Gentleman Jack will grab you from the opening scene and you’ll become completely immersed in the lives of Anne Lister, a woman well before her time, and Ann Walker. You’ll be left wanting more and, thankfully, a Season 2 has been announced! 🎩♥️🎩

True life story of a larger than life trailblazer. The sensitivity, accuracy, and perspective is the very best of any lesbian predecessor. Well done ladies. Well done!
  • So great to see this kind of representation done so well

I honestly think this is the best thing I've ever watched, period. The representation felt spot on to me, and I didn't realize how much I needed something like this in my life. I think the fact that it's based on Anne Lister's diaries certainly helps make it feel authentic and genuine (yay for historical research!!), but I also have to give massive props to the screenwriting, directing, and acting. I've been so tired of "lesbian" stories being told and directed through the male gaze, (looking at you, Disobedience!), but this show felt very true to the queer experience.
  • Great Series, Shame HBO Cut Scenes

I would've hoped the iTunes version would give us the full episodes as broadcast in the UK by BBC One. Unfortunately, these are the same ones HBO used on television that are cut about 2 minutes of content. Love the series, but for that, HBO gets a star knocked off.
  • Great show, period 🌈

This is a 5 star series and it’s coming back for season 2, can’t wait. 👍 People should actually see it before they give it any less than 5 stars. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ inspired by a true story in history about Ann Lister. In those days marriage between woman were formidable. They had to have a constent to themselves with a promise. 🌈 The cast is amazing, lead by the incredible Suranne Jones.👏
