Description

QUEEN SUGAR returns as the Bordelons find themselves continuing their fight to save their family farm and father’s legacy as they navigate their own personal journeys. They soon find that their fight extends beyond their close-knit family, but also to the community. Charley (Dawn-Lyen Gardner) remains in the thick of the trials and tribulations in both her personal and professional life as she continues to battle the Landry family while also trying to ensure Micah’s safety and future. Ralph Angel (Kofi Siriboe) is still reeling from learning from Darla (Bianca Lawson) that he might not be the biological father of his son, Blue (Ethan Hutchison), and attempts to push forward as the new cane season begins.

The writers of this show have truly outdone themselves with this series. The characters are well developed and complex, it is realistic and convincing. The drama isn't overdone or over the top, the characters are deeply human and their experiences honest and relatable. It's a very thought provoking series that tackles ideas about the meaning of family, love and marriage, police brutality and the prison system, drug addiction, parenthood, loss and death. It explores the role of activism in daily life as well as what it means to be an advocate for your community. What does it mean to give back and what does it cost? How do you reconcile differences and disagreements with members of your family and community? What responsibility do you have to your family and community? The characters are forced to choose between their individual interest and the interests of their family and community. This show is certainly not for the meek of heart. It has brought me to tears on multiple occasions but I think that only speaks to the rawness of the writing and acting. 10/10, would definitely recommend to those who enjoy a good character-driven story.

This is hands-down the best show on television. -The cast, the writing, ....the sets!.. -All do a beautiful job of bringing the everyday struggles and triumps of an ordinary, hardworking family to life. There's so much depth to the characters and storylines-all unfolding against the backdrop of the rich and colorful culture of a small farming town on the outskirts of new orleans.
