Description

Having left the safety of being Cat Grant’s assistant at Catco Worldwide Media in order to figure out what she really wants to do, Kara Danvers (Melissa Benoist) continues to work with Hank Henshaw (aka Martian Manhunter) and her adoptive sister Alex (Chyler Leigh) at the DEO as Supergirl – protecting the citizens of National City and searching for her missing father Jeremiah (Dean Cain) and the secret research lab Project Cadmus. Along the way, she will team up with her Kryptonian cousin Kal El – aka Superman (Tyler Hoechlin) – to battle new villains both terrestrial and extraterrestrial, from the DC Universe, as she strives to balance her personal life with friends/allies James Olsen (Mehcad Brooks), Winn Schott (Jeremy Jordan) and more with her busy life as a new Super Hero in SUPERGIRL Season Two.

The introduction of Lena Luthor has by far stolen the spotlight of this show. I love her as such a strong independent character and love her dynamic with Kara. Looking forward to seeing a lot more of her in S3. I'm here for one reason and one reason only, the iconic Katie McGrath!

Season 1 of Supergirl exceeded all my expectations. S2 expanded the show's narrative reach, but also made it less coherent in its storytelling. It's a tricky line, but one can only hope that its move to the CW doesn't permanently turn the compelling hero's journey of Kara Danvers into just another CW teenage melodrama, with too much of a focus on her romantic entanglements - something S2 had a bit too much of - and not enough on her actual growth as a character. There are some real gems in this season, though, that make it worth watching. Kara's burgeoning friendship Lena Luthor is one: the Super/Luthor dynamic is perennially fascinating anyway, and in this case brings out Kara's best qualities while also showing us tantalizing glimpses of a complicated character (Lena) on her own path of redemption. There's a simplicity to their choice to be and stay friends that's a refreshing counterpoint to the messiness of Kara's other relationships. Then there is the story of Kara's sister Alex, who falls in love with a woman in a storyline that is well written and emotionally resonant. Among other things, the gravitas and edge of Calista Flockhart's Cat Grant is really missed. And I hope they recalibrate the overall tone and narrative more towards the elements that made S1 so successful.

Really enjoyed watching the show. Glad to see Cat Grant back for the final two episodes! Not a fan of Kara and Mon El's relationship, I wish TV writers would stop making weak male characters as the acceptable choice for a strong female character. Love the show and enjoy all the other relationships.
