Description

Continuing their creative and commercially incandescent partnership (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Sleepy Hollow, Edward Scissorhands), superstar Johnny Depp and macabre movie master Tim Burton reunite yet again in this silver screen adaptation of the cult classic supernatural soap opera that follows the life and loves of New England vampire Barnabas Collins. Also starring Michelle Pfeiffer (Batman Returns), Eva Green (Camelot), Helena Bonham Carter (Harry Potter) and Australian newcomer Bella Heathcote as a young woman who finds herself inexplicably entwined in the vampire's fated love story two centuries earlier, DARK SHADOWS brings to light Depp's vampire from 1752 into the lava lamped vamp camp of 1972!

I enjoyed this so much I watched it twice. Love the horror comedy genre and love Johnny Depp. Could not help but wonder if Amber Heard modeled her behavior after the blonde witch that vowed to destroy Barnabus for not loving her back. Locked him away and smeared him to ruin his excellent reputation in Collinsport. The parallels are striking. Nonetheless, great film! Alice Cooper’s appearance just makes it even better. Highly recommend Dark Shadows!

I like weird movies, Tim Burton, and Johnny Depp, so this movie was actually really good for me. I haven’t seen the original series, but I enjoyed this movie a lot! I honestly expected to be disappointed, but I wasn’t, very much enjoyed watching this movie.

First off, I'm not really a huuuge Tim Burton fan.. This movie was okay. I want to be first and realistic about my review. Overall, I really liked it until the last about 20 minutes. I thought there was enough comedy and good visuals to keep me entertained for the most part. The soundtrack alone is almost worth watching it. I rented it instead of buying it and have decided that if it ever goes on sale for under $10 I would buy it. I would watch it again mostly because I think the style and atmosphere of the movie was pretty cool. The ending sucked though.. It was just too much.

Tim Burton makes good films but Dark Shadows is funny but to many flawed visuals and terrible acting. Vampire movies are the stuck of the mind genre that won't bite if you have teeth gooly!!

If you are a fan of the old TV show, it's Amadeus compared to this disrespectful homage. If Depp and Burton had given the material the Sleepy Hollow treatment, it would be forgivable, but they had to drop a few hits or smoke something and then decided how to make this. Jonathan Frid has a cameo in this film, and after seeing the film, he probably died of a broken heart. I'll pass. Period. Since this popped up online. I’ll add to my original review: What a pant load. Please go away, Johnny. Just go away.
  • A Good (and Funny) Vampire Flick

It’s about time Tim Burton did a movie about a vampire. The movie is a bit different than his other movies but I see it as a vampire movie and not a Burton movie. In my memory, I can’t seem to think of a single comedy film (dark or otherwise) where a vampire is the protaganist. This isn’t meant to be a Dracula film, this is meant for people to laugh. Admit it: you’d pay money to see a 200 year old vampire try to understand what a “meme” is.
