Inspired by an incredible true story, THE WAY BACK begins in 1940 when seven prisoners attempt the impossible: escape from a brutal Siberian gulag. Thus begins a treacherous 4,500-mile trek to freedom across the world's most merciless landscapes. They have little food and few supplies. They don't know or trust each other. But together, they must withstand nature at is most extreme. Their humanity is further tested when they meet a teenage runaway who begs to join them on their quest. A compelling testament to the human spirit, this gripping wilderness adventure is "Peter Weir at his hypnotic best" (Telluride Film Festival).

Frustrates me that most reviews don't consider "value for money" I've watched plenty of $15 & $20+ movies that have struggled to hold my attention and imagination like this movie did. Granted it's a survivalist mid century document-drama which is niche but damm it's good at what it is. An easy 4 stars for the performance and movie itself and at $5 its' incredible value so 5 stars overall from me.

Six-time Academy Award nominee Peter Weir brings the most entertaining surivial film in the last decade, while many critics and audiences think that the Way Back was underrated and not focused on the interesting locations and descent storytelling they were probabley not paying any attention. While little to know cinematopgraphy is shown in this film it still plays a important role throughout the whole movie while they walk, walk and walk the movie gets intense with the ominiouns good score. The Way Back follows rookie poland spy Janusz Gustav (Jim Sturgess) after his lovely wife confess all the actions and responsible murders that Gustav have accomplished for that he gets transferd to 1941 sebria were many poland and german outlaws, floks and criminals have to accomplish hard slave labor. Gustav meets likely foes Mr. Smith (Ed Harris), Ruthless theif criminal Valka (Colin Farrell who gives a cartoonish but impressive gangster performence), Voss (Gustaf Skarsgård) and the long lost poland liar liar Irene (Saorise Ronan). Together they must travel across the world by walking without mercy, food, water or any subject materials they might have needed in their journey. The plot is interesting and original for a not so perfect survival film and the performences from all the lead actors were pollished and fantastic, each of them have good banter and sometimes our main companions don't work out with our each other but still have descent amount of chimestry and relationships that is shown in the film and that was fine and impressive. Although i founded the locations to be quite the exprience and walking amoung the mountains and traveling across the world remind me of Lawrence of Arabia meets the Great Escape. The music however is exhilirating and kept me in focus and interesd in the film throughout and as the actors were able to shine and try to survive it was entertaining enough for me to exprience the real-life travel, although the film does have it's flaws it's still a wonderful set piece of exprience and courage to survive in this beautiful matchmaking footstep masterpiece. Even though calling The Way Back a underrated movie is not something you should say about this film and deeply enough this movie dosen't follow the cliche forumla into making survival films and each step they take is breathtaking following great cinematopgraphy and beautiful locations makes The Way Back a relaxing movie to explore and work on if the movie makes you homesick. I highly recommend this survival film it's a movie that kept me wondering how beautiful was it to walk across the world and survive nature in it's own belief and struggles towards relationships and team-work if i say do myself-rating 9/10.

I don't know why but this movie really touched my heart. Maybe it's because it shows true human spirit in the worst of places. Proving that there is good in all of us no matter how cruel & evil this world may seem

I am not sure this movie even needed as much dialog as it had. I found it to be beautiful and captivating despite its unsteady pace forward at times...
