Description

A group of acerbic, angst-ridden twenty-somethings hang out at a local convenience store complaining the night away, until a visit by a rock star who went to school with them causes them all to re-examine their lives. Starring Parker Posey ("Superman Returns," "A Mighty Wind"), Steve Zahn ("Chain of Fools," "Out of Sight") and Giovanni Ribisi ("Gone in Sixty Seconds," "Saving Private Ryan"). From hip director Richard Linklater ("A Scanner Darkly," "Waking Life") and writer Eric Bogosian ("Talk Radio").

I'm all about "real" stuff, whether it be movies, music, etc. Nothing fake and cheesy about this movie, but rather one that has a lot of depth. It has its funny moments, it has its deep and even dark moments. To be quite frank: a movie not for the simple minded but ultimately one that the intelligent, deep thinker will get the most out of.

Entered a contest back in the day for promotional materials from subUrbia, and I got one of those great Twinkie Cowboy t-shirts, so you know I had to travel to see this film in a theater during a frigid big city winter. The movie is a lyrical poem to all the disaffected suburban kids who feel like there is no place in life for them. Even now, I long to sit down and watch this profound film again. Movies like this should be savored over and over. I hope you'll have a chance to watch subUrbia and explore some breakout performances from a fine ensemble cast in a town without pity. Meet you in the tent or outside the 'mart.
  • In a way, this takes me back

This movie reminds me of my teen years in many respects. We wasted life getting messed up and hung out along the side of stores talking about nothing that felt inherently meaningful. We were punks, goths, druggies, and drunks. Some of us ran with gangs and others strictly partied. It certainly is not a pretty picture, but that was a life I remember and this movie portrayed big portions of that quite well.

Being that I've never heard of this movie, along with the fact that no one has reviewed it, I figured I might be in for a huge disappointment. This was not the case. I got a great movie with interesting, unique dialogue and a creative, realistic story progression. Really well done.
