Description

From the acclaimed director of the global hit Old Boy comes a shockingly original vampire story with a chilling, erotic style. A blood transfusion saves the life of a priest, but also transforms him into a vampire. He struggles to control his insatiable thirst for blood until a love affair unleashes his darkest desires in deadly new ways. Hailed as “Daring, operatic, and bloody funny!” (Lisa Schwarzbaum, Entertainment Weekly), Thirst is a truly wicked love story that takes classic vampire lore to twisted new heights.

I got a hold of this while on a Korean film bender. I loved it. I love good vampire movies. Basically the old ones before teens thought vampires were "hot". This has a very classic filming style and plot. Please be aware: it is a slow start and you may have a few "what the" moments. But it is enjoyable and thought provoking. That's one of the reason why I love foreign films.

Just watched this movie. I have seen 3 other Chan-Wook Park movies (The Vengeance Trilogy) and thought they were all brilliant so naturally I decided to give Thirst a try. I also really liked Kang-Ho Song in The Good the Bad the Weird, and The Host, so more incentive to watch this one. Well, it did not disappoint. I am not a BIG vampire movie fan, but you know, I like Francis Ford Coppola's Dracula, and Cronos, you know, the good ones. None of that Twilight garbage. Well, this one is up there with the best of them. A great, fresh, original (am I being redundant? Aw, who cares?) smart, and even funny at times, take on the vampire story, and that Ok-Bin Kim! Wow! She was fantastic as the quiet, yet severely disturbed Tae-Ju. She stole the movie for me. If you want to see a great vampire movie that has a great new take on the story, with superb acting and directing and a great story, well, look no further, because Thirst is that movie. Hope this review convinced you to rent or buy this one. You won't regret it. Enjoy!
  • Not really what I anticipated

When I first saw the film, I thought this film was going to be a typical horror vampire dark film....while that is it in a sense it seemed more like a tragic love story then a horror film. I was waiting to be scared but in all honesty, the husbands creepiness was the only thing to really freak me out. It's a brilliant film yes, but not really what I thought it was going to be like....plus they needed to change the ending a little.

Is it interesting? Is it romantic? Is it adventurous? Is it... I don't know... Someone please tell me. I watched the preview of it. It's awesome!

Brilliant film. It really needs no further defense from me, and you don't have to be a Korean to "get" it. In fact, many Korean viewers were baffled by its distinctively Catholic philosophy and other aspects of this masterful exploration of guilt and true faith. My only wish/complaint is that this (and other Park films) should be offered in HD. Come on! It's movies like this for which HD was invented.
