It is with much sadness to learn of this artist passing in writing this review. ‘Fame’ an early film of hers showed off her ability in acting as well as vocals. Her ballad,’Out Here On My Own’ still does it for me! I can still remember when the 1980 film came out. It was fresh and still raw even today. This movie portrays the desires of some to go out to achieve their dreams, to ‘become a shining star’. There is a lot squeezed into this film but it still works. The re-make is nothing compared to the original. Irene Cara R.I.P

I just had to have the original movie from the 80's! It was one of the best movies then, but I noticed there have been part that were taken out from the original movie. Why? They were important to see. This is the reason for only 3stars!
  • A good plot and story

Is it odd though that just the other day I saw a play of this film done by fourth and fifth graders? I mean they did very well but I wonder if the teachers knew that the movie is rated R. Lol

Hmm I see some bad reviews that's is so weird! This movie is awesome it always was and always will be. I tried to figure out what type of people would find this boring and the only answer I could t hink of is they must not be in the Arts field because if you are you know you can feel it when you watch this movie. I wouldn't even bother watching the remake because we all know the orginal movie is always the best. Buy it! Enjoy it!

I remember seeing this in the theaters when it came out as well as when they were filming specfically the "Fame" dance scene. They were dancing to a Donna Summer song ;however, this film defined a an era of youth back 1979 and 1980 that was a pivitol point in the music industry and the arts scene. Disco clubs were beginning to faze out of mainstream and went back underground . Attitudes about sex were changing as well as the art scene. Please keep in mind that "Fame" was orginally filmed in 1979, rememeber back in those days it took a while to bring a movie to the silver screen. Fame is a film that is marked and set in a time period when the boundries of free expression were being pushed by the then youths represented in the film. I wasn't the thrilled with the recent remake of this film, in fact, I walked out. I realized that I really enjoyed the original film. Certainly, one of my favorite movies.

As a few reviewers have said, the movie is missing a few scenes. But amazing nonetheless! An absolute gem! It practically changed my life when I first saw it. There's nothing like Fame. If you haven't seen it before, I absolutely recommend. And if you're considering wasting your money on the remake, don't bother. This is where it's at. Five stars, A+, etc.
