Description

"One ring to rule them all. One ring to find them. One ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them." -- J.R.R. Tolkien, The Lord of the Rings -- In the first part of J.R.R. Tolkien's epic masterpiece, The Lord of the Rings, a shy young hobbit named Frodo Baggins (Elijah Wood - "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind," "Everything is Illuminated") inherits a simple gold ring. He knows the ring has power, but not that he alone holds the secret to the survival -- or enslavement -- of the entire world. Now Frodo, accompanied by a wizard, an elf, a dwarf, two men and three loyal hobbit friends, must become the greatest hero the world has ever known to save the land and the people he loves. Also starring Academy Award-nominee Viggo Mortensen ("A History of Violence," "Eastern Promises"), Academy Award-nominee and Golden Globe- winner Ian McKellan ("X-Men," TV's "Rasputin"), Orlando Bloom ("Troy," "The Pirates of the Caribbean" trilogy), Liv Tyler ("The Strangers" "The Incredible Hulk") and Academy Award and Golden Globe-winner Cate Blanchett ("Elizabeth," "The Aviator"). Winner of four Academy Awards including Best Cinematography, Best Original Score, Best Visual Effects and Best Makeup.

  • Excellent Trilogy, but I have a suggestion.

Please add the special features and TV spots from the initial DVD releases of the theatrical movies for HD purchases. That would be great to see. Other than that, this is a very brilliant Trilogy.

I didn’t think the difference would be significant. I’ve always been impressed with the visuals of all the movies. But the 4K version brings out details I don’t think I’ve ever seen in the multiple times I’ve watched the series. Amazing clarity in all scenes. Love!
  • Oddly paced

Okay so, granted, this is my first time seeing this movie, if you don’t count the Veggie Tales version of this movie I watched when I was 6. I found it to be very weirdly paced. Maybe due the fact that it’s an older movie and the pacing standards were different back then. Or maybe due to the fact that I’m from Gen Z and have a short attention span. I don’t know. The only saving Grace for this movie was how many memes came out of it. Other than that, it was boring, and the humor was funny, but cringe.
  • Correct “Fellowship” Library Icon concerning this Version?

Some temporary icon switches, if indeed so, are fine; I hardly object to the specifics of every instance; but when I have already — as in previously — purchased a given book or film item in a certain electronic edition or version, I would hope that I could be assured the option of keeping the icon imagery of that purchase as shown at the time of purchase . . . even when the marketing decision of a later moment generates a switch to a new image. There are cases in which I have been referring to a certain book, readily accessible and visible via a given appearance, for quite a few years; this can make reading (or viewing films and so forth) significantly more convenient and appealing than with frequent — and, in electronic venues, forced and comparatively jarring — alterations such as, yes, will commonly occur, but can usually be addressed or avoided within reason as concerns hardcopy fare. That said, I was and am astounded by the spectacular, glorious achievement of all three Lord of the Rings films in either version! The cast and acting for Gandalf and his Posse are beyond belief. Scenery; costume; music; respect for the story? All Is Radiance. The reverence for love, friendship, and all that is right . . . this, all the while, is what ultimately sails these films “westward”. Just offer us more options, as discussed above, such as would clearly improve our access to, and individualized organization of, the Items We Have Seen Fit To Purchase; a personalized sorting option (surely allowing for iPad also) can light up any film library. We currently have such options for books; why not other media? Five stars despite some of the above issues . . . and a few more: in the books, Aragorn did not need to be coaxed into confidence — or browbeaten concerning his romantic hopes — by anyone; he refuses to attack an old man who merely Might Be Saruman; and, unlike the Extended Edition of the films, the original story in book form certainly does not present Éomer as bludgeoning us with prejudicial remarks stating an ironclad hierarchy for warfare . . . though this was somewhat counterbalanced within the same Edition, through a similarly dramatic emphasis upon his grief at the thought of possibly having just lost his sister Éowyn (who, given the films’ terrific devotion to her persistent courage, her wartime prowess, and her correspondingly leviathan deeds, would need NO assistance from politically clanging gingerbread dialogue — such as inserted for Éomer — to earn our empathy). Of course, book-to-film revisions do tend to enhance discussion! . . . all said in case any of it will be at all helpful; and Thank You.
