Description

A self-made Boston millionaire Thomas Crown (Steve McQueen) masterminds a bank heist in hopes of leaving it all behind. Tired of being part of the Establishment, he has hopes of pulling off the caper and flying to Rio. The cast of crooks lead by Erwin Weaver (Jack Weston) manage to pull off the robbery without a hitch and without ever actually meeting Crown. After depositing 3 million into a Swiss bank account and paying off the crooks, Crown waits for the insurance company to repay the bank for the loss. With the help of savvy detective Eddy Malone (Paul Burke), insurance investigator Vicky Anderson (Faye Dunaway) attempts to find the mastermind behind the heist.

I suppose this movie was good in its time, but 50 years later it is very dated. The acting is atrocious. Perhaps the worst thing about the movie is Steve McQueen's horrible fake laugh. Extremely cringeworthy.

One would argue that you could watch these two (McQueen and Dunaway) peel potatoes for 90 minutes to the same effect. Brilliant, spare, sleek story. Incredible direction, editing, wardrobe, score, shots, filters, etc. are burned indelibly into you cerebral cortex. I've watch it over a dozen times and it never gets old. One of the best ever. Period.

I've seen both versions many times, and still can't pick a favorite! I love each one I see! I do wonder why I can't get the playlist for the original film. Only "Windmills" is offered. I would like to download a few other songs. Very 1968 ish...Any suggestions ?
  • Where is "Windmills"?

Why isn't "The Windmills of Your Mind" by Al Stewart available for purchase? Why isn't the entire soundtrack available for purcase? It seems like this is the way for older films on iTunes. I don't want a remake. As far as the movie, I wanted to go back to before I was born and be with Tommy Crown-at least with clothes on. The ending begged for a sequel.

This movie boldy examines what it means to be a man/woman-of-action, so to speak. As a big fan of McQueen, this film allows him to show off his wit, courage, and fearless of living a full and exciting life. Also, besides the plot being beautifully constructed, the relationship between McQueen & Dunaway is pure gold. The chess scene is a personal all-time favorite of mine.

I love the music in this film. Drastically different storyline from the latest, but filmed and told in a unique and brilliant way. I don't remember any reason for the R rating, it's a fairly clean film. It is best when watched without any comparison to the newer version. A classic movie that deserves at least one viewing by every movie lover.

The credits, the layout of scenes on the screen... It's well done. See? Faye Dunaway was quite gorgeous. This movie also has THE MAN in it...STEVE MCQUEEN! The ultimate leading man who was also a man's man! Not a pretty boy... Not a frou-frou... The original has a cooler ending. This is why it was neat to see Dunaway in the remake. Her outfits are too cool in this film. Sit back--and enjoy the ride!
