Description

He was where he shouldn't have been and saw what he shouldn't have seen. Now, who will believe the word of a career thief and ex-con? Who will trust Luther Whitney when he says he saw a woman killed and that the man responsible for her death is the President of the United States? Clint Eastwood portrays Whitney and directs this crisp, finely acted thriller based on David Baldacci's best-selling novel. A stellar cast which includes Gene Hackman and Ed Harris creates well-rounded characters that intensify constantly spiraling game of cat and mouse between Whitney, local police and the highest levels of White House power. Eastwood is a master at steadily raising the stakes in thrillers. Here his mastery is absolute.

Action=packed, but there are so many plot holes. Each great actor is playing exactly to type. Enjoyable-ish if you end up watching it, but you are better off watching other work by Eastwood and Hackman.

I love Laura Linney, Clint Eastwood, and Ed Harris as actors, and they all do a fine job in this film. The film was a good adaptation of an extremely excellent novel. David Baldacci's writing is amazing, and I was pleased that the movie stayed true to the novel. Good acting. Enjoyed it very much.
  • Can watch again and again

I've seen this movie many times and each time I enjoy it. It is not all shoot 'em up but has good suspense and is easy to watch.

A perfect Clint Eastwood movie...great script, acting, directing, cinematography, and editing. Gripping story and one of Clint's best, if not THE best.

Evidently the people who liked the movie never read the book! I have never watched a movie that so totally dismissed the plot laid out in the book. Why Mr. Baldacci would sign off on this movie is an even bigger question?
  • It all sort of came together.

The good news is that Eastwood's directorial skills and material have matured significantly since he shot this one. It is a silly movie of improbable circumstances and unbelievable characters. Great actors try to find something to hold onto. But, there is little to work with. Some of the scenes just made me cringe. Eastwood, however, is his wonderful, man-of-few-words self. Always the flip, but ethical outsider, pure of heart even though tearing apart lives and trust with his misdeeds. In the end, he fixes everything and we all feel fine. He has a great brand going on and on...fortunately, it does become more polished.
